This Is The Route Of Twisted Pain: Neither This Nor That 1 (Neither This, Nor That) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 223 ratings

Legends are born from moments like these. Folktales spun around a single point in time so perfect, you can almost hear the click resonating through the universe as things align.

George Bell, aka Twisted, knows the odds are against him. Have been all his life. Born in a Louisiana bordello, raised around the rough and rowdy men of a motorcycle club, he’s never been the lucky type. But he believes luck can change, so when fate gives him a glimpse of breathtaking beauty, he’s more than willing to roll the dice. Chancing upon what could be the woman of his dreams, he’s prepared to push this streak as far as he can.

Penny Dane’s background gives her an edge in the life she’s chosen to lead. Raised in a can-do family, she’s resilient, rolling with life’s punches and landing on her feet. But, when the past holds painful secrets—when a single misstep can turn deadly—can she trust the passion this man stirs in her?

On the surface, Bell and Penny don’t work. Their mismatched worlds are too different. But like a backwater bayou, what you see is not the whole story, there are mysteries buried underneath. Penny is the red-haired beauty caught up in a web of lies. Bell is like no one she’s ever met before. The problem is, he knows it.

*Please note this book is part of the Neither This, Nor That MC book series, featuring characters from additional books in the series. If the books are read out of order, you’ll twig to spoilers for the other books, so going back to read the skipped titles won’t have the same angsty reveals. I strongly recommend you read them in order.

First off, let me state that there was one thing I didn't like about this book and that is the LAST PAGE! I hated for it to end. I dearly loved this book and its characters as well as their setting.

That said: George Bell, aka Twisted; what a man. I LOVE Mason (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #6) and now with Twisted we have a whole new man full of MC branded integrity and strength. In a few ways he makes me think of Mason.....but he is definitely not Mason. In other words; we are no longer in Kansas Toto. With the Incoherent Motorcycle Club everything is new again. I’m thoroughly excited about this book and further books in this series!

George's upbringing is utterly heartrending. How he becomes the man he does is almost a miracle. Along with his best buddy Ralph (Po’Boy) they start out rather thuggish and over time (and beating up other bad boys) become true brothers. When Paw Paw (George's Granddad) takes a budding bordello whore (George) under his wing and care, I cheered. Paw Paw......what a fantastic character. He was so many of my favorite MC guys put together.....a true leader of men. I loved Paw Paw. (sob). Thank you MariaLisa deMora for giving us Paw Paw. I have a feeling that George (Twisted) will grow into his own 'Paw Paw'.

Penny, for her part, is a wonderful young woman. She’s street savvy and so very snarky in deed and speech. I love strong yet vulnerable women. She was made for Twisted (George). Her upbringing was completely conducive to MC life. Her sense of loyalty to those she cares about rivals that of how a MC bands together in their quest of brotherhood. What she and 'Bell' (George/Twisted) found together was fun to read. Their intensity and depth of emotions were plainly written but with prose to win over the most skeptical of romance readers. Yes; this hard hitting story has an undertone of romance running through it. Once they meet both George and Penny know they found 'it' - no games - no assumptions - just a couple magnets that can't stay unstuck.

There is action in this story, as well (sex, yes…but MC at work type action, too). A few of the dastard, which our Incoherent Motorcycle Club would ship off to hell! I'm hoping this MC group flourishes, grows, and gains strength under the watchful care of Twisted (George). I'm thinking with him at the helm and Shiny Penny at his side they'll rule their MC world.

Lastly: Po’Boy (George) needs a story. I'm hoping he’s next. It's going to take some kinda special woman to turn his head in the direction of commitment. This series has to have at least six books, just saying……..

Thank you dear authoress. I am a very happy reader for having been so entertained whist living vicariously through the lives of the characters in this book. It is indeed; a book I'll reread many times down the road.

Enjoyed this story of Twisted, Po'boy and Sweet, Shiny Penny. Hard to hear some of the trials the three had to go through, but the end result was worth it

I read many types of books but good MC books are my favorites. I liked the male character. He was a real outlaw however he had a big heart for his love. I also liked the female character. A strong woman with a feminine side. The book was raw and gritty. This is what I expect in an MC book not those lightweight imitations. I would give the cover 10 stars. It was perfect. Exactly how I would expect Twisted to look. I have passed on many books with great reviews because I hate the cover. I will never understand why writers put unattractive men on covers. I think many women read these books and fantasize. Why would I want to fantasize about an ugly man. We see enough of those in real life.

This is a new author for me but this was a great gritty and very interesting MC romance. The story of Twisted life from small boy to him being president of MC club and meeting the love of his life the strong, sweet shiny Penny as twisted call her. There is some great other characters as well, want to see their story's. There is action and sweet, sexy love scenes and gritty scenes, love it all. Great ending but you want more, can't wait for second book. Would recommend this book to MC club romances.💗💗💗💗💗

I was honestly going to give this book a 4 Star review at first. That changed for myself about the half way point. It was kind of a slow start for myself. The halfway point it started picking up on the grit of the storyline. It had a lot of building up into it until it really got good. Not bad just slow! With this being a first book in the series I am taking that into consideration.

Really liked Twisted's character, his description, morals, sexiness and Alpha male tendencies. If he looked anything like the cover than HOT Dayum!! He had awesome love for his club and brotherhood. His justice and judgements were swift.

Penny his Shiny Penny was a strong female character. The things she does for the ones she loves is astounding. And an amazing woman whom can drive a rig and motorcycle just awesome. These two characters were made for each other.

Really hope for more of this set of characters. And hopefully we get Po'Boy's book next. Thanks for sharing this story with us readers.
    Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis

I read this about a week ago and have had Twisted and Penny running around in my head since then! Bottom line, I floved this book. In the beginning, I cried seeing how George grew up and what he endured. When his grandfather took him in at 16, he was already a hardened man, yet there was a softness deep inside of him that made me root for him, even as he made hard and tough decisions as a member of the Incoherent MC.

And then there is Penny. Sweet, somewhat innocent Penny. She manages to rev Bell's engines in ways that (I think) melted the walls around his heart and let it start beating again. She's feisty, independent and strong. And then they have "all night" together and neither of their lives were ever going to be the same.

The characters are well-developed. I definitely got the feels, if the tears that poured down my face reading about George's upbringing is any indication! I cannot wait to see what happens next in the Incoherent MC!! Kudos, MariaLisa, you did it again doll!

I enjoyed this book by an unknown to me author. It has a lot of gore and is twisted but ultimately a love story. My only complaint is that the characters and action were sometimes hard to follow which is why I gave it 4 rating.

This book should have more stars than I’m allowed to give .... lots more. It’s gritty, violent, and even beautiful in places not just for the love between twisted and Penny but the love between him and Po’ boy his brother in arms and brother from another mother. The wars with another club keep you glued, the twists .... oh boy the twists, some we still don’t have answer to but the next book may answer those or just add more questions!!! Who knows. I really could waffle on about how amazing this book is but you need to read it yourself. I will say that you need to concentrate as the scenes can jump and sometimes you feel like you missed the beginning of it but it all come clear it’s just another clever way of pulling you in.

5.0 out of 5 stars The stuff of legends

As a huge fan of MariaLisa deMora's Rebel Wayfarer series, I wasn't sure how I'd like this departure from the interwoven characters she's introduced me to thus far. But Twisted and Penny are fabulous. A little more grit, a lot more Southern, but their story still has all the ingredients I love in an MC romance and all the emotions of a deMora novel.
If I had to give one reason I think of this writer as superior to most in this popular genre, I'd say it's the richness of her writing. Her characters aren't slapped onto the page with broad strokes of gaudy colour, but delicately layered with tones of light and dark. And the stories she weaves them into make them larger than life, the stuff of legends.

I loved the audio version of this book. When I first started reading the ebook, I struggled to continue readingpast the first few chapters, but after hearing all the good things written about this story and series, I was happy to listen to the book. Kurt Graves gave this book a voice I won't soon forget and I can't wait to listen to the next in series.

This is a different MC romance, more gritty, more sexy... more everything. Long enough to get your teeth into but no page wasted. I wasn't sure if I'd like Twisted at first, but warmed to him quickly. Penny is a good strong female lead. Loved this book.
