- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2019This story broke my heart and then put it back together. Man and and are an amazing couple. I can't wait to read more by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2018Anissa had been in lust with Kam forever, but he was her bodyguard and the consummate professional. Deciding she’s waited long enough, Annissa hatches a plan to seduce Kam – only to discover the handsome man feels exactly the same as her.
While in many ways this story follows the regular “bodyguard falls for his client” style of plot I found much of the emotional side of Kam and Anissa’s romance to be refreshingly different – more of a teacher and student style of intimacy. I admit I found the misunderstanding between Kam and Anissa mid-way through the story a bit of a cliché and I don’t really understand why Kam didn’t try to explain himself but rather just left. It felt a bit silly to me that he and Anissa discussed so many other delicate and hurtful things openly (such as her father paying other men to pretend to be her boyfriends) but Kam couldn’t explain to Anissa why he’d contracted on for more money when there had been a sensible and logical reason behind it. It felt a little to me just like stringing out the conflict aspect of the plot which (to my mind) wasn’t necessary.
I found this story to be more tender than I was expecting. Anissa had been completely sheltered all her life – all-girl high schools, controlled “dates” with only approved men and so forth. At twenty one she’s determined to try and spread her wings a little and carve out a semblance of her own life. I was pleased when it became clear very early on that Kam was just as interested in Anissa as she him, but also that Kam’s protective instincts were in full force. He wasn’t prepared to back down when Anissa’s safety – or heart – were in question and Kam was even prepared to be professionally reprimanded for following his emotional instincts.
I enjoyed Kam and Anissa’s characters and found much of their romance sweet, emotional and interesting. Watching Anissa take charge of her life and really go after what she wanted was lovely and seeing the strength of love she and Kam shared was uplifting. Overall I found this to be a sweet and emotional read.
