- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2024This author writes short stories that can be read in a couple hours for those too busy to read for long periods of time. A well crafted story of a spinster who has an opportunity to match up with a gentleman she was engaged to as a child. Both characters are strong willing so there are lovely opportunities for head butting.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2019First, let me say I enjoyed the story - it was very short, started on page 73 & ended on 953 & it just ended, with no epilogue.
Lady Olivia Montague is a self proclaimed wallflower & future spinster - she has had a marriage contract for the last 15 years & has not heard from her future husband one time. The last thing she expected was for him to show up & announce he was ready to marry her - she has to find a way to escape this fate.
William Breckenridge, recently titled Duke of Thorne after the death of his parents, is now responsible for his 3 sisters & he needs a wife's help with the 16. 18 & 19 year old young ladies. He doesn't find a willing Olivia when he comes to her to announce his readiness to marry. The H & h were meant for each other but you really didn't get much time with the 2 of them interacting.
I can't believe the editing errors - such a short book in a series & the editing was done poorly.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2019This is a sweet, quick read which is what I needed today. That doesn't mean there isn't some angst involved. Looking forward to the rest of this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2019This ends at the 84% mark and the rest are promo's for other books.
There is very little on romance because the h has been forgotten for 15 years. We learn they have been betrothed for that long when they were children, but we never learn their ages. She has sensible friends who try and have her see the upside of marrying the H but she wouldn't have it. At first I truly understood her feelings, but as the story went on, I thought she protested too much. The title states Fated for a Rogue, but there was nothing to lead us to believe he was a rogue.
I did like the H and he was honest to a fault to the h. The h did make me laugh in the beginning, how hard she tried to change the H's mind that she wasn't suitable. Because of this I've raised my rating, because it did make me laugh.
Only a few passionate kisses and I can't say I felt a connection to this couple, because how the h acted. The story ends abruptly and I thought there would be more.
We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, a fast road to HEA, no romance or passion, a sweet story, but could have been more developed.
I own many books by this author and she usually pulls me into her stories. I found the secondary character's interesting and will probably follow the series,
I can't improve on the blurb, but would recommend this short novella. (ljb)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2020This is a short love story where Lady Olivia, because she has been totally ignored by her betrothed, William, Duke of Thorne, decides that she wants to get him to break the betrothal and tries to concoct ways of disgusting him so that he does so.
I must admit that there is a bit of underlying sense of humor showing through and of course William only realizes that he in fact loves her and can't do without her in his life when it is almost too late.
I listened to the audiobook version and my review above is voluntary and unbiased.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2021Fifteen years betrothed and not one letter or visit, until now. Lady Olivia is angry with William, Duke of Thorne. He expects to marry her right away to mother his three younger sisters and ready them for their season. Olivia won't marry without love. So she begins her campaign to push him to call the wedding off. It's up to William to convince her she's the one he loves. Very amusing antics to convince him to call the wedding off.
Needs proof reading, please.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2021I have loved the Meara Platt books and this one was given a brief introduction at one of the ends of Meara's novels/novellas. I thought that if Meara was introducing it that it would be similar to those she writes. I don't feel like it was worth the price at all. It was written in a very immature style as though this was some 15 year old's view of what love is all about. I'm not sure whether it was just this particular story that was such a turn off or whether this author's other stories are similar. We shall see. Apparently I must have bought 4 others somewhere along the way that the various book clubs I belong to recommended since I like Regency Romances, but I definitely did not like this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Light read with moments of sparkle!!
I'm in two minds about this as overall I enjoyed being swept away in this quick, sweet read yet the usual connection I feel to Mariel's characters appeared lacking somehow - perhaps the depth that her characters usually project from having more developed back stories or the need for a deeper romantic connection with the addition of more chapters I'm not sure, or maybe it was simply the fact that I can't help but feel frustrated at the lack of proof reading - an issue I don't normally like to highlight when I'm no editing genius myself - yet the annoyingly obvious spelling errors and misplaced words really started to effect fluency, which couldn't help but spoil what had potential to be a really great read. That said there were moments I really loved and started to see a spark developing between William and Olivia where their encounters really gripped my interest with witty banter, elements of sensual teasing and heartfelt musings where just a few more romantic scenes like those would of tipped the connection scale considerably. The subcharacters have great scope too as Emma and Juliet (Olivia's best friends) appear to have really strong personalities as do William's siblings, which despite only getting to know briefly, seem to shine brightly already. A likeable read that had the potential to be fabulous - will be seeking out Mariel's connecting series nevertheless!

3.0 out of 5 stars Simple story with dozens of errors
This is a simple short romance similar to many others. It is full of misspellings, not simply typos, which takes the mind away from the plot.
