    I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of evolving relationships, such as a protector-ward relationship or mentor-protege relationship which evolves into that of a romantic soulmates type of relationship. It may sound icky and disagreeable to some, but variety is the spice of life as long as it's between two consenting adults and not incest. So the premise of this novel is right up my alley.

    Caspian aka Cas was a 16 year old runaway escaping an abusive household when Jonah found him soliciting with a pimp in exchange for food or shelter. Not wanting Cas to end up like Jonah, he rescued Cas from a horrible fate and offered Cas a place to stay for the night.

    Cas ended up staying with Jonah for more than one night, and Jonah ended up as a protector of sorts for Cas. However, due to a misunderstanding from both sides, they parted ways when Cas turned 18. Jonah had tried his best to protect Cas from getting involved in the dark side of Jonah’s life but Cas interpreted Jonah’s actions as Jonah trying to control Cas’ life. Cas went on to become a highly in demand black hat or criminal hacker.

    Five years later, they meet again and while Cas has been harbouring less than familial feelings for Jonah ever since Jonah took him in, Jonah saw the now adult Cas in a different light. Now the stakes are higher and Cas is being hunted by shady and extremely dangerous individuals due to his hacker activities. Jonah’s protective instincts for Cas was reawakened the moment they reunited and Jonah had to find a balance between doing all that he can to protect Cas but also letting Cas make his own decisions regarding his safety.

    The developing romance between Jonah and Cas was surprisingly sweet despite the age gap of at least 10 years. The yearning and pining was more obvious from Cas, whereas the authors didn’t dive too deep into Jonah’s thoughts and feelings on how his relationship with Cas was changing which was a shame. Would love to know more on how Jonah viewed his relationship with Cas, past and present.

    The sex scenes were steamy and slightly kinky but also intimate and emotional at the same time. They are protective of each other but they are also not afraid to open up and share how they truly feel about each other towards the end.

    The action and intrigue was well written and there is a plot twist at the end which ties up the story.

    The supporting characters were interesting especially Sadie. Madigan was less fleshed out even though he appeared quite frequently in the story, but that is most likely due to him being the protagonist in the next novel where his story will be told.

    Looking forward to reading the 2nd novel in this series.

I'm never able to put them down for long before I'm picking it back up just itching to know what's next. If I could give all her books 10 stars on here I would. I haven't ever had the pleasure of reading Neve Wilder but now I do believe I have found another author I want to follow. This pair has made a work of art and can't wait to finish this series!

    This review is a little difficult, why you may ask? Because by the end of this book I was totally in love with Cas and Jonah, but getting to that “In Love” part was a little hard on me.

    Jonah is the super scary older hitman that is REALLY good at his job, and good heavens the things he has lived through were horrific. As his layers get peeled back and you discover more about him, you can’t help but love him.

    Cas was 16 when Jonah found him in a subway station up to no good. Jonah saved Cas from himself that day… and Cas just stuck around. But there was a falling out after a couple of years and Cas just left. Left to become a renowned hacker. Cas is a strong, yet sweet character.

    Now Cas is in trouble and the only one that may be able to save him is Jonah!

    This book was steamy, had good characters and the story was very suspenseful. BUT, this book also had one of my pet peeves. I have issues when a MCs has sexual relations on page with anyone outside of the intended love interest, EVEN if the two characters aren’t together yet… I don’t want to see it (in my head)… and it changes the way I see a character after that…It’s one of my things that I just can’t let go of.

    By the end of the book, I was thrilled by how the story had progressed, the twists and turns were exciting and had me on the edge of my seat, and I will read the next book because I think Madi is going to be one heck of a character.

    Neve and Onley are exceptional authors on their own, but when you put them together the pages ignite! Every character in this book was developed perfect and backstory were set up with meaning. You were given enough information on side characters that you knew exactly where the stood and where they come from, but also just enough mystery to make you want to know their whole story! All of this was done without taking away from the two MC’s, Caspian and Jonah.

    Caspian and Jonah have their own little world. A smooth distinction of cruel world vs normal life. They both have very crude jobs where the ties that bind are death and mistrust, year they’ve built their own dysfunctional family.

    Each time you think you know who the villain was, the plot twist came and you had to, just had to read the next chapter no matter how late it was, for the next breadcrumb. The shock and awe came reeling back from Jonahs past to threaten his Caspian. But just when it looked like there was no way out, Caspian proved he belonged in this world and Jonah could no longer shield him.

    When Jonah and Caspian team up anything is possible, even love. For two men who live a life of danger in the killing fields, life is a normal as it’s going to get for them. For now ;)

    I'm going to keep this short and straight to the point. This book is THAT good.

    I was curious to see the result of this collaboration, mainly because this is a totally different line the authors usually go for on their solo books. And let me tell you: they've done a perfect job here, taking the collabs as I know it to a whole different level.

    Cas and Jonah are one of those couples that the more you get to know, the more you cheer for. Neve and Onley wrote a story with a powerful couple - yeah, don't go thinking sweet hacker Caspian is just a good looking guy with some badass skills - a god and thrilling plot and some very good side characters as well. Caspian and Jonah find each other after 5 years apart, not on the best of circumstances and from there, they go on a path to solve the mess and fix some issues from the past. The story has a good pace as well, not too slow and not too fast; the climax of the story follows that line, and I'm glad with the final result.

    Some scenes will make you go "wow, did that really happened?"; on others you'll be like "awnnnnn that was so adorable 🥰🥰". And as for the sex scenes, expect Neve and Onley's trademark - meaning: scoarching sexy and hot, melt-your-kindle and I-need-a-drink style. The kind of twisted (and perfectly for them) tiny tender moments is present and it gives them more life.

    You'll probably finish this book wanting some ice cream. Just saying....

    This book follows our characters : Caspian, a runaway and a sought after black hat hackers who is also in love with his saviour; Jonah, a contract killer and a saviour whose only weakness is his runaway. I mean honestly omg their meeting, the pining, the chemistry, the whole second chance plot was all amazing. The relationship dynamic between them was explosive and paired with the crime mystery subplot, this book kept me at the edge of my seat. It had the right amount of snarky dialogues, found family, sarcasm and thrill, and that ending was one of my absolute favourite!! Not only that, it also talks about a lot of difficult real life issues in the fictional setting and Morally ambiguous killers, and love that makes you kill. If you are a fan of morally grey characters who will melt for their love, this one is for you. Don't be surprised when you find a lot of sniper jokes and secret assassinations.
