About this ebook

Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.

One day, he’s tracked down by an uncle he barely knows—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.

The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.

Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

Honestly, I went into this book expecting exactly what I got: A rehash of every single plotline he's done. Except now, he getting into the political arena, and honestly, the book wasn't that great. People worship Riordan, because of the huge hits that PJO , the Heroes of Olympus, and The Kane Chronicles were. This book left a lot to be wanted. Making the gods, especially Thor, jokes, seemed to me to be a cheap plot device, and made me long for the days of Are, and the battle on the beach. The characters were not even slightly interesting, and completely unrelatable. Come on, at least the Argo 2 group actually fought. This series seems to be just running around doing random things, and the fights are way off from his usual work. But, everyone treats Riordan like another Stephanie Meyers.

This book is full of cliches and full of really predictable plot twists. The author uses a lot of concepts and schemes from prior books yet makes little attempt to hide him ripping himself off. Not to mention he makes the grave error of trying to be hip and even worse he makes the old mistake of making references that are supposed to be jokes just because they reference something that exists in real life. If you really like Riodens other books and want more of the same thing go ahead.

I expected more. I really love some characters (only three tbh) but not the main one. He's just a rehash of Kane and Jackson. The story left something to be desired, read like he was bored when writing it, ending seemed rushed, and I hated how he made all the gods of this book seem like jokes - he didn't do that in the previous two myth series so it seems incredibly disrespectful. Will read the second book to see if things get better but I'm not holding my breath.
