About this ebook
Take a Magic Carpet Ride back to the 60s, to the days of dreamers, schemers, and rock ‘n’ roll screamers, to discover how “Boss Jock” Gary Arizona got his (less than stellar) start in AM radio.
In the spring of 1967, Chuck Moorman is a shy, overweight, and nerdy 16-year-old. He wants to be a Top-40 DJ “in the worst way.” He also wants a job, a car, and a girlfriend. Thanks to some lucky breaks, he not only gets a job and a car but also falls under the guidance of local DJ Ray Waters. Thanks to Ray and his own fortitude, he gets an opportunity to have a weekend rock and roll show on Ray’s station, KMFR.
But Chuck has a past of public ridicule, thanks to his weight and nerdiness. To hide the fact that it’s really him on the air he creates the pseudonym of “Gary Arizona.” It’s a great idea, and he’s a hit! Chuck basks in “his” popularity and wonders if his secret identity is still a good idea. Then, his dream girl suggests she’s attracted to the new DJ, forcing Chuck to come up with a plan to reveal his secret and win her over.
Will his plan succeed, or will he “lose her—to a summer love?”

I wrote my first short story while in first grade, and it was actually published in the school paper. How long ago was that? The newspaper was mimeographed – that’s your clue.Since then, I’ve been writing on and off, both fiction and non-fiction—sometimes for a living, sometimes for fun. I’ve written more than 100 articles in a variety of places, including a variety of gaming publications along with in-flight magazines, and local newspapers—all over the place.I even won a writing contest with a $1,000 first prize.Since then—under my own name—I’ve written four how-to books for beginners on the most popular casino games like Craps, Blackjack, and Poker, plus one on horse racing. I also collected some of the short stories and essays I wrote about gambling “back in the day” into a small book. Now, like a well-worn 45, I’m playing my flip side, writing YA novels under my alter-ego, Rex Michaels. There are more in the works, so...if you like this one, stay tuned...BTW - that's a portrait of the author as a very young man. Still have all that hair, too.
