About the author

Susan Leigh Furlong knew she had a special connection with words since she was a child. When she was 9 years old, she wrote and directed her first play for the neighborhood children.
Susan’s love for history fuels her resilience against the sneezes and coughs that old books give her as she delves into research for unique historical events to inspire her historical fiction romance novels. Susan captures her readers’ imagination with a highly enthralling style, chronological events, and smoothly flowing narratives that keep one’s eyes glued on her novels from the first page to the last.
Susan has written two non-fiction books and three novels set in sixteenth century Scotland as well as several short stories published in national magazines. Her most recent release is Desperate Hope, a novel set during the American Revolution. When Susan is not combing through history piecing together her next novel, she writes, directs, and performs with a music and drama group.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2022“Keeper of My Dreams” is my favorite Susan Leigh Furlong book. I have read her other books and I liked them, too, but for some reason this one stood out to me. The book is very well written and I really liked the story line. The characters were strong, there were twist and turns, and history to learn. A story about Leena, Reid, Reid’s three sons, a gun, and much more.

An entertaining and moving Scottish historical romance, with a bold female MC and a caring male lead (and some adorable but hearty kids). Informative, with the depth of some history included in the background, this novel is a quick and easy read, with realistic pirates, Highland and Lowland characters, and of course beautiful Scotland as a main character too. For historical romance fans who prefer a little adventure as well.

Keeper of my Dreams is a breathtaking historical romance I couldn't put down. From the beginning, I found myself whisked away to 16th century Scotland for an unforgettable adventure. Susan Leigh Furlong is a gifted historical romance writer. Using descriptive narration, the author plunges the reader into a time and place they may not be familiar with. The plot moves at an excellent pace with intricate historical accuracy. Every detail about gunsmithing in the 16th century added such depth to the overall story. I found it fascinating myself. The hero and heroine are widowed so it was natural for them to talk about their passed-on partners. At the core, it's a seasoned romance filled with heart, intrigue, adventure, and three adorable little boys. Brilliantly written, Keeper of my Dreams is a fresh take on romance in 16th century Scotland. Fans of Scottish romance will love this book. If you enjoy reading historical romance, you'll love Keeper of my Dreams. Another gem from the talented Susan Leigh Furlong. Highly recommend!

My Rating: 5 stars
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2022I was blown away by how well done this story was the heroine was remarkable. This is a tale of what a father will done to save his children and what a young widow will do to help keep our hero’s children safe. The story was captivating and a page turner it was so hard to put this one done to eat dinner. I really liked the historical information the author added. I received this book for free from Booksiren and voluntarily chose to review it.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2021The writing was articulate and the plot was interesting for the most part, but the author completely lost me when she discussed the characters’ intermingled saliva. What was supposed to be a romantic moment was ruined by this grossly descriptive sentence. It also was representative of the romance as a whole—in other words, the romance was just not very romantic. Both characters talked ceaselessly of their dead spouses and were very reluctant to enter into a relationship together, which put a damper on the mood of the book. I also usually really enjoy single dad romances, but Leena wasn’t that nice to the children. A lot of moments that could’ve been sweet came across as harsh and awkward.
The first 60% of the book was engaging though. I liked the pirate angle and the excitement of how the family would overcome this seemingly unbeatable force. However, the remaining parts of the book fell flat. They were very slowly paced and somewhat confusing to follow. It seemed as though the characters were just taking turns getting captured, which was rather tedious.
Overall, I did not like the pacing or relationships in this novel. I do not recommend it.
*I received an ARC of this book. This is my complete and honest review.*
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2022This is a historical romantic read taking place during sixteenth century Scottish. The story is about Leena and Reid. She thought her heart died with her husband. When she meets Reid things change. When she finds his three young sons in her cart things get very interesting. He is trying to keep his secret improvements to the pistols and rifles hidden. When a pirate discovers them he threatens the life of Ried's boys. This such a good read with some suspense, action and love. *I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.*
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2021This was a tremendous book to read. First of all, let me say this is not the type of book I normally read. But I absolutely loved this book. I tend to stay more in a recent time era. But it was so interesting to read about custom and even a bit of language. The author evidently put a lot of research into this, and the result is a smooth story from beginning to end.
While it does not change my reading habits, I would say that I definately would read this author again. I cannot recommend this book too highly. Get it. Read it. Enjoy it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021I was hesitant to do this one because I usually don't de 'love' or 'sweet' except for the occasional family sagas or exception on impulse or recommendations. I'm glad I read this one, it came at a hard time for me and I needed something like this.
The characters are engaging and likable, the writing is wonderfully done and Susan is gifted at writing this era of time. I had a hard time putting this book down. Great job
