      CHAPTER 1

      Something about him sent a delicious shiver of anticipation up Joy’s spine. That shiver did a little curtsy at the base of her neck, before sliding down and sending a tingle between her thighs. Her lips parted of their own accord as if to speak, but no sound would come. The Welcome Circle, where all the rules were laid out for the total strangers embarking on an unforgettable journey, had already started.

      Rule one … pajamas stay on the whole time, the flaxen-haired host said.

      Desperate. The one word centered in Joy’s mind followed by a few more. How desperate did a woman have to be to attend an event simply to experience someone else’s non-sexual touch? She was here, wasn’t she? Settled on a sofa in a room filled with people who had come for one purpose—a Cuddle Party, the new wave of safe adult interaction. Everyone played by the same set of rules. The word no was met with a comforting phrase, Thank you for taking care of yourself.

      Joy, a single of mother of two, had held onto the article from the Chicago Red Eye for nearly a year before deciding to give it a try.

      The gentleman had caught Joy’s attention as he swept into the room. He removed a large bottle of Southern Comfort from a brown paper bag and set it on the counter as he settled into a spot near the front door. With his back against the wall, he observed the people spread out in several open rooms. The man was stunningly handsome, with piercing brown eyes, and dark silky hair with a small shock of silver right at the widow’s peak. His olive skin had been kissed by the sun, and lips that were the most delectable she’d ever laid eyes on. He wore silk, navy-blue pajamas that complimented his tall, muscular physique. She, along with several others, couldn’t help but stare.

      Rule two, their host continued. You don’t have to cuddle with anyone at a cuddle party. Ever.

      Oddly enough, Joy expected a place filled with outcasts, people who might have been easily overlooked on the dating scene and everywhere else. Not so. Each man was more handsome than the last. The women were either drop-dead gorgeous or girl-next-door beautiful.

      The mysterious stranger remained near the door until it was his turn to share his expectations of the event. The panther-like gait commanded everyone’s attention as he sauntered to the center of the living room where everyone was assembled.

      My name is Ali Khan, the smooth, baritone sound beckoned Joy from her thoughts. His voice was as sultry as his appearance, and that was saying something.

      The moment his intense gaze met hers, any misgivings she’d felt about being there quickly dissipated.

      I’m here because I love the concept, and the rules. There’s a freedom here that’s sorely lacking in the world.

      As more guests finished their introductions, Joy found that a surprising number of women shared one common thread—molestation, childhood abuse, sexual harassment. Their willingness to share something so personal gave Joy the strength she needed to let her guard down—but only a little.

      She glanced at Ali again. One of the rules drifted into the forefront of her mind. If you mean yes, say Yes. If you mean no, say No. If you mean Maybe, say no. You can always change your mind later.

      Without warning, Ali turned his head and stared at Joy. They were connected across the expanse of the room for several seconds before she broke contact and lowered her eyes. Her pulse raced as if she’d run a marathon mile at top speed, and everything within Joy screamed that if asked, she’d give this man an absolute, Hell yes.
