Louie Thorne is “an indelible protagonist”(Kirkus Reviews), and she’s back in this seventh installment of the bestselling Shadows in the Water series.

The phone rings in the middle of the night and Konstantine knows the news will be bad even before he answers it. When his childhood friend begs for his help in finding his missing daughter, Konstantine recruits Louie Thorne and her unique talents to locate the girl.

But the search for the girl takes Louie to Tokyo, uncovering an intricate human trafficking operation owned by Konstantine’s most formidable rival: Riku Yamamoto, the notorious and ruthless leader of Japan’s largest crime organization.

Konstantine must ask himself if he is willing to start a gang war in order to help his old friend. For Louie, there is no question. Now that she has seen what Yamamoto does to the women and children he takes, she will not stop until she’s destroyed him.

This engrossing crime thriller with a touch of the supernatural is perfect for fans of Dexter and Stephen King.

My favorite Lou Thorne book!!
5 out of 5 stars
My favorite Lou Thorne book!!
Overkill was a wonderful book by Kory Shrum! Love Lou Thorne’s character, and we got to see deeper inside her connection to La Loon, and her “pet monster” that roams its shore!! Also love her relationship with Konstantine! Looking very much forward to the next book in this series which is truly my favorite by this wonderful author!

This whole series is freakin fantastic! Start at the beginning of the series because they build, but be forewarned you’ll want every one in this series and a couple of other of Kory’s series too. I absolutely love the story line and am so impatient to read the next one. The author has such a wonderful imagination and paints a perfect picture with her words! She spins quite a tale.

I was soo worried about Jabbers. I also wanted to knock some sense into Piper. Mel has an amazing personality and Lou ties them all together with a gritty serious bow. You won’t want to put it down and I found myself reading into the late nite, er…morning…. This one as well as the others won’t disappoint!!!

Get some answers to questions you have had about Piper, Lou, and Konstantine. Enjoy all the amazing locations with vibrant descriptions. Feel like you are helping Lou and the gang get rid of some really bad people.

Ok so I'd preordered this and was so happy to finally see it in my library i closed the book i was reading and started on Overkill. I loveeeee the fact that I can't get enough of her main character Louie. I started reading and got a call i needed to go to the emergency room with a friend, so i took my ipad with me - because Louie.... anyway I finished the whole thing in one day. OMG was fantastic. I love the way the author tackles unsavory situations by metting justice Louie style - if you are a fan of this series - you know what I am talking about. This story will take you through so many emotions and I think, like me, you won't be able to put it down. More please.......

While on a quick field trip to dispose of a personal matter, author Kory Shrum's Lou Thorne brings dinner but Jabbers fails to show up. Then Lou, who is never ill, falls sick. The rest of the crew must learn to work without her. Mel is called to face her own quest. Piper is handled by her first solo case. Dani digs into research. King searches for the perfect New Orleans FWB beignet. Konstantine mulls using the fear inspired by "la strega" to create regime change in the absence of the dark lady herself.

Warning: it's a book with dark subjects. Horrific as it may be, though, it's just a shadow of real life. A day in the headlines from, say, the Ukraine-Russian War, reveals grotesque human activity on a scale far beyond Shrum's fictional narrative.

This should not be the first book you read in the series. Across the earlier books, Shrum crafted a rich background for each character. Much of the development in Overkill leans on those earlier events. Overkill, then, is chock full of spoilers. I can only encourage you to begin at the beginning. It won't take long to catch up: once you step into one of her books, it takes control of your life as you move from shadow to shadow.

It is compelling, beautiful writing with a deadly protagonist who's still exploring her limits. And whose brief smile may really be the last thing you want to see.

Even though this is the sixth book In the series the storyline is fresh and exciting. Spoiler Alert: new information is revealed about the characters and theres plenty of twists. Wonderful book.

Lou takes vengeance on those who harm the helpless, especially women and children. She experiences an episode of being sick probably from overdoing and not taking care of herself. Konstantinos, her lover, wants to take care of her and lies to her.
The rest of her group are working on things themselves that are both interesting and suspenseful.
I received this book as an ARC and loved it so much that I bought a copy as well. I highly recommend this book.

The author has outdone herself on this one. For anyone out there following Lou Thorne, who would believe that she would get sick - and what about the disappearance of Jabbers - so many mysteries to be solved.

I got hooked on this series right from the first book. It’s great to see how Louie has grown and matured through the various stories. She continues to use her special talent to right the wrongs anywhere in the world.
In this book there seems to be strange and worrying things happening in La Loon. Her connection with Konstantine gets stronger with each book though.
I Highly recommend this series it is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wunderbare Fortsetzung
Reviewed in Germany on March 22, 2022

Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung!

Another excellent Lou Thorne novel. I like the character progressions that are happening. We all change over time and it is nice to see that happening here. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Such a fantastic book as always from Kory.
Lots of twists and turns and as always lots of action, a bit more of Piper in this book too. I liked this one, it was kind of like two stories in one, both equally as entertaining and action filled. Was well worth the wait. Thoroughly enjoyed it
