Lyfantod, you look ridiculous.
My oldest friend, Calder O’Dwyer, sat in judgment from behind my desk. He had his feet up.
I don’t know, I think I look rather fetching.
I did a half-turn in the mirror, stretching to see how my new boots looked from the rear. They flare quite nicely.
He twirled the springy cord of my antique black rotary. You look like a pirate.
Do you think so?
"I didn’t mean it as a compliment."
Look how they swallow up my trousers. Like fingers into koi fish. Do you suppose pirates wore trench coats?
Mine hung from a coatrack by the door.
"No, they wore frock coats, which have more buttons and are generally unsuited to those who wish to go about unnoticed as—oh, I don’t know—say a detective might."
"Frock coats. Hm. I won’t ask how you knew that. Do you suppose Greyburne might have one lying around? If I go back downstairs now and tell him it’s to go with the boots, he might feel compelled to
