A ghostly paranormal romance

You don't have to be alive to fall in love.

I died a century ago.

Trapped between realms, my sole purpose is to help the recently dead move into the light.

I had accepted my lot, resigned to my fate – until I met Michael.

Michael is very much alive, and although he denies the existence of ghosts, I know he can see me. He hates that he can. I think he hates me, too…

But when darkness replaces light, the fate of every deceased soul including mine, lies in the hands of this man, a man who doesn’t believe in spirits.

And to make matters worse, he has also claimed my heart.

Not for the fainthearted, this book has grown-up themes and scenes of magic and violence.

"A wonderful blend of romance, thriller, mystery and paranormal."

The Medium Path is a standalone book but deals with a familiar storyline as from The Spirit Guide and you see some familiar faces in this story. Though it is a standalone I would recommend you read The Spirit Guide first as some of the information that is presented in this story will make more sense and present a better understanding of the relationship that develops between Ruby and Michael.

This was another wonderful story of love that can transcends the barriers that exist between this realm and the next. The story was full of intrigue, love, tenderness and yearning, and again with Elizabeth Davies' unique way of describing the intricate details of a scene playing out, I found myself transported in that world. I was so enthralled by the story I couldn't put down and found myself lacking much needed sleep for work the next day. Seeing the love that develops between Ruby and Michael and how despite how she is a ghost and he is a living man they are able to find in each other what they have been searching for all their "lives": love and acceptance. Such a beautiful story that tells the tale of possibilities on what may lie ahead and allows the reader to escape into the belief that maybe, just maybe, anything is possible. Enjoy!

The Medium Path by Elizabeth Davies was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by the author.

It is Ruby Anderson’s birthday. Well, it would be if she were still alive, and she would be one hundred and three years old. But she’s not alive, she hasn’t been for eighty five years. But she didn’t go into the light either, when she died. Ruby is a spirit guide. She was able to see ghosts when she was alive and was deemed mentally ill. Upon death, she was kept on earth to help guide others that have passed on into the light when they are reluctant to give up their life force and go on their own.

“Some job. I received no payment and there were no benefits. Eighty-five years of non-stop work without respite. I might have killed myself if I wasn’t already dead.”

When Ruby isn’t busy helping others go into the light, she visits with a couple of local mediums that are able to see ghosts. These aren’t the flamboyant types of mediums that you would see on television but people that have a gift and quietly help others that would benefit from their ability. There are also a couple of other spirit guides nearby that she can visit with. There are rules for spirit guides, one if which is that they are not ever allowed to alter or interfere with anything human. Ruby is content enough with this existence; she really doesn’t have a choice. But then she met Michael.

Michael can also see ghosts, he is a medium. But he thinks he is crazy. He doesn’t want this ability. When Ruby died, she had never experienced love or lust or any of the things young women take for granted. But as soon as she saw Michael, she longed for all she had missed. She spends time with Michael and helps him to understand and accept his ability. And in the process, she fell in love.

At the same time, as Ruby was attempting to help some reluctant ghosts into the light, they were suddenly taken by something dark. Where did they go? How did it happen? Ruby, Michael, the other mediums and spirit guides all get together to try to figure out who or what is taking the ghosts and to figure out how to stop them.

This book is a very unique story. I’ve never read anything quite like it before. It is both a sweet romance and a suspenseful one as they try to solve the mystery. And wow, what an intense ending. I was on the edge of my seat and my heart was beating like crazy. This is my second book by Elizabeth Davies, I previously read The Spirit Guide and loved it. So, if you are a fan of ghostly romances with a healthy dose of suspense, this book is definitely for you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I loved this book. Ms. Davies has given us a story rich in plot, character, and atmosphere. The characters of Ruby, Michael, and supporting cast were intriguing and well developed. The plot had twists and turns I didn't anticipate. The setting wove "normal" people, mediums, and spirits together in a rich tapestry. I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

This story was well written and told from the perspective of existing as a spirit guide. I loved the story, but had issues with certain points of the story toward the middle and definitely by the end. From my unique perspective of being who I am and my talents, I am very aware of what spirit can do, and can't, so certain story points didn't work for me. As for the average reader, it will definitely be a very entertaining read and will make you want to grab a hanky. Very suspenseful and a book you won't put down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and gripping paranormal romance - you will LOVE the heroine!

Ruby is a young in body, old in years spirit guide who helps recently departed ghosts progress to the ‘light’. Going about her usual daily work, she realises that many are being claimed by a terrifying darkness instead and enlists the help of other spirit guides, living mediums and reluctant see-er of ghosts Michael, to combat its horror…

I was new to this genre but The Medium Path had me hooked from the very first page. I fell in love with the wonderful character of Ruby immediately and thoroughly enjoyed being catapulted into her world, right from the start. Then we are introduced to Michael and I would defy anyone not to adore him as a fictional hero. Wow, he is a sexy character! The relationship between the two of them is captivating and totally believable, despite one of them being a ghost. Actually, this makes their relationship all the more powerful. Throughout the novel I found myself desperate for them to get together and stay together, but of course, things are never that simple…

Elizabeth Davies has conjured up a brilliantly atmospheric world where human life and the spirit world interact, connect and weave in and out of each other beautifully. With such a great cast of characters, I was really swept up in the spirit’s reality and all-too-human efforts of those of the living, especially Michael and the medium, Jennifer. There are some downright creepy moments, a wonderful love story, a good dose of mystery and suspense, and little touches of humour which make the words sparkle off the page (I LOVED Henry, the cantankerous ghost). I raced to the end as I couldn’t wait to see what happened, and to find out the fate of Ruby and Michael.

If you like paranormal romances, you’ll love this book. If, like me, you are new to them, you will also be totally enchanted by this wonderful novel and fall in love with the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of those things is love, until she meets Michael

This is an exciting and romantic tale about Ruby, a ghost who acts as a spirit guide to the recently deceased. There are many things that 'young' Ruby has missed after being taken to the spirit world in her early adulthood. One of those things is love, until she meets Michael, a reluctant medium. Michael and Ruby's relationship develops after his breakup with Racheal. Meanwhile, while Ruby becomes a little preoccupied by the good looking and charming Michael, a dark power begins stealing the life-forces of the recently departed, before they are able to go into the light. Ruby, Michael and their friends must battle this evil force and free the trapped souls, a task that puts their own lives in peril.

I loved this novel. From start to finish we can empathise with both the love-struck Ruby and the gorgeous, yet fearful of his medium gifts, Michael. I wanted them to find a way to be together, despite Ruby's earthly displacement. I feel the novel accomplished this, and enjoyed the whole work immensely. Elizabeth Davies has done a fantastic job writing this piece. It is well romantic, entertaining, original and downright funny (Henry the grumpy ghost!). I look forward to reading more novels by this author and recommend that you give this one a go. For the price of a cup of coffee, this is an extremely enjoyable read.
