    All right, I confess! I love physics. I blame my misspent youth reading science fiction by the likes of Asimov, Heinlein, and Clarke. Not surprisingly, I also love science fiction. I grew up in Missouri, in a family of overeducated overachievers. Following in their footsteps, I've earned far too many degrees including an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Elementary Particle Physics and an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction. Hmm? I may have a split personality. The evidence shows I've authored or co-authored many scientific articles, and am a longtime member of the American Physical Society.       Quantum Cop Chapter One

      This was the first short story I wrote in the Quantum Cop world. It takes place soon after the events of Quantum Murder, so, Madison has discovered her powers and is figuring them out. As a reader and a writer, I really enjoy holiday stories, Christmas stories, in particular. This one references a lot of fun Christmas music.

      Quantum Christmas

      In my office in the physics department, I pushed myself away from my computer and did a mental happy dance. Yippee! I'd just turned in the last of my grades for the semester. My teaching duties were over for the next two weeks days. Yippee!

      Christmas music played in the background, I don't want a lot for Christmas..., via internet radio.

      Madison, did I just hear a yippee coming from in here? my handsome boyfriend Andro Rivas asked from my office doorway. His office was right next door.

      I stood up and ran over and planted a juicy kiss right on his mouth. Mmmm.

      When we separated, he was smiling. Let me guess, you turned in your grades.

      Yes! Yippee! I'm sure I was beaming like a Star Trek transporter. Do you want to go to Boulder Brews and drink a bunch of weird seasonal beers?

      He laughed a little. I wish I could. But my grades aren't in yet.

      Aw. I was in such a great mood even this minor disappointment couldn't get me down. Can I take you out for a celebratory dinner tonight?

      No, I'm sorry, he said.

      No?

      I must have looked confused because he said, I'm leaving for Texas tonight. With Sophia and her mom. We're going to visit her parents. I told you about it. Remember? Sophia was the three-year-old daughter he'd only recently found out about. He'd just gotten shared custody, and this was going to be their first Christmas together. He had a poor relationship with his baby-mama, but he was trying to be a good sport about it.

      He had told me about his trip. I'd just been blocking it out because I didn't want to face Christmas without the person I loved the most. Right. I forced myself to smile. "What are you guys
