Finding the Forward, Part One: A Why Choose Omegaverse Hockey Romance (HockeyVerse) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 625 ratings

My life isn’t a fairytale, even if I wish it was.

I’ve been raised on stories of soulmates and happily-ever-afters, causing me to yearn for a pack and omega of my own.

But I've been told over and over that no one wants an alpha female like me. Not that I know how to be one.

Then I meet Grif.

On what feels like the worst day of my life I find Grif, the sexy, giant forward, in my airplane seat. The connection between us is molten. If he wasn’t a beta, I’d swear he was my scent match. My soulmate. My perfect omega.

The sizzle doesn’t stop with him.

The chemistry between me and the rest of the pack is just as hot. There’s Jonas--a tattooed, blue-haired, alpha defender; Dean--a huge omega goalie with a thing for bread; and even AJ--a well-dressed, grumpy, alpha investment banker.

I want to be Grif's alpha. I want them all. But can I face my past and alpha-up?

Finding the Forward, Part One, is the first half of a why choose omegaverse hockey romance duet. It’s m/m/m/m/f, and ends on a cliffhanger with an HEA in part two.

She’ll be their Greatest strength...or their biggest downfall.

Female alpha, male omega, and so much more!
5 out of 5 stars
Female alpha, male omega, and so much more!
Female alphas are few and far between in omegaverse books. Verity is hands down my favorite. She is strong but sweet and a little uncomfortable with her alpha designation due to constant attacks by her parents. Verity has been through a lot to get where she is. The woman needs a break, which I hope we will see book 2. (This is a big cliffhanger ending as part of a duet.)Grif and Verity meeting on the plane and finding each other months after their first encounter was quite romantic and sweet.I found the alphas reactions to Verity, a more unique perspective. Jonas more than AJ. I feel like their behavior toward her is more real life. Jonas is not against her joining but feels she must be good enough for his pack members. I like that he wants to help her reach her full potential as an alpha. AJ's reaction is more volatile. One of my favorite parts of this story is Verity's sister Mercy and the Maimers. Will she have a story in the future?

Ok the cliffhanger in this book- I am so glad Book 2 is already out because you can bet that I am going to get my hands on it to DEVOUR it so I can see how this story ends!

I don't think I have ever read a story with a female alpha, so I was super excited when I saw that this was a female alpha. Throw in two more hot male alphas and two male omegas and holy crap! This makes one spicy set up for the beginnings of a pack that has left me panting with need to see if these 5 will get their happily ever after.

While I loved all of these characters, I especially loved Verity. She comes from such a damaged background- a family pack that was so toxic to her growth in the sense that they tried to keep her down from pursuing her dreams to help them stay together, that I loved seeing right after the beginning that she was able to finally break free from that environment to be able to live the life that she wanted. I loved the moments between her and her sister, Mercy as well as the moments with the guys, especially with Jonas. Her alpha lessons were some of the sweetest moments in the story and I really liked seeing that they were willing to work with her to give her the training for her designation that she so clearly was denied from her own family unit. There was no judgement- only shock and willingness to help her become the Alpha she wanted to be for Grif and as time went on Dean.

I also really enjoyed her interactions with AJ. While Jonas was skeptical in the beginning about her around his omega, Dean, he wasn't standoffish in regards to her pursuing a relationship and was not worried about who she was and her motives. AJ was extremely guarded in the beginning and had a real dislike for Verity. He eventually thawed to give her a chance and I found myself wishing there were just a few more stolen moments between the two of them so I could see more of their growing relationship. Plus, I loved how she sent mini cows to his office- among other animals. His reaction to those little cows was hysterical and I seriously think I need to see him interact with them in the next book.

The secret that the guys are keeping is one that I was not expecting at all, but the background as to why they are keeping it is so wonderfully developed. It makes sense in their hockey world and I, for one, am excited to see what happens in part 2 to see just how the hockey world will accept what these men have hidden, which I think will be coming sooner rather than later, especially after the cliffhanger at the end of this part. Depending on who walked into that locker room could be disastrous to them and I am excited to see just how they will handle it as the guys continue to navigate finally being a pack and how they are going to bring Verity in.

The chemistry between all of them was off the charts. Hot, spicy, completely off the walls. I can't wait to see what happens when Grif's secret is exposed and just how Verity reacts since they both have done so much damage to their designations and just how their chemistry is affected. They are perfect for each other (as they all are, they just might not realize it yet) that I am excited to see maybe one moment between all 5 (and maybe a moment between AJ, Jonas and Verity together- something tells me that would be something that I will 100% need a fan for. I will also settle for just AJ and Verity- I'm not picky)

Great start to this series. Wonderful characters that are cleverly rounded and work well together with each other. I can't wait to see what happens in part 2.

Watching Verity connect with everyone in the pack, seeing her accept her alpha and take steps to grow into it, just ah, so good. Getting all the information piecemeal wasn't my favorite, but better than a dump. I still raced through this book in two days. The world is interesting, the characters have some growth and depth, with the hockey romance tropes we all know and love sprinkled in.

Sleep? What's sleep? I certainly don't know after being kept awake by this novel all night long hahaha. Absolutely loved this. I genuinely appreciate the way author makes her characters comes so alive & makes them so easy to care for & get to know. Usually in RH things can feel rushed, and multiple MLs can fall to the wayside, with us not getting to know them well enough, but that certainly isn't the case here.

Having climbed out her window to visit her older siblings, Verity isn't having the best day. Her Pack parents are intrusive and abusive. They have beaten her down over the years, controlling her and berating her for being a "lesser" Alpha. She's never enough for them. Then she meets "Airplane Guy", Grif, a sexy giant taking up her airplane seat. It's an instant connection. If he wasn't a beta, it would be a scent match. What's meant to be a one-time encounter turns out to be more and Verity also connects with his Pack. Verity wants Grif, wants them all, but is she Alpha enough?

This book almost became a DNF due to the nicknames. I beg the author - NEVER AGAIN. I have never been more turned off and annoyed by pet names. Cringe isn't even strong enough. If I reviewed lower than a 3-star, I would have taken off another star because of them. Have I made my point? The pacing didn't work for me either. This was too long for a duet. There was so much unnecessary side action happening at all times. While I am ranting, I may as well include Jonas. He's one of the most unlikable Alphas I have come across. She's not Alpha enough for Dean and Grif even though they are both crazy for her? So, designation makes giant men helpless? He's mean, judgmental, and feels threatened by a female Alpha intruding into his Pack. He wants to change her, just like her family. Verity needs to forget this Pack and concentrate on her flowers, her sister, and the Maimers. The only thing I truly enjoyed was the livestock office delivery. That was funny. I hate that there's a second book to read. I wish I were a reader who could easily forget to finish.

Dean is my favorite and him saying the word boobies all the time cracks me up

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was also my first hockey book. This was about Verity who was an alpha. She was on a plane to go see her siblings. Her parents weren’t happy about it and they told her to not go so she could watch the younger kids. She snuck out and went anyway. She met Grif on the plane. She had to sit with him since they oversold the flight. Grif bought both seats in first class for extra room. They both tried to find each other but Grif didn’t give up. He ended up finding her and they were together as much as possible Grif was married to Dean and they lived with their 2 friends AJ and Jonas. They filled out paperwork to become a pack and it finally was approved. Grif and Verity had an argument and she didn’t know what happened. She called AJ for help. This ended on a cliffhanger can’t wait to read the next one.

Well, I stayed up well in the night when I should have been sleeping, hoping I could finish it, but stupid work got in the way!

I fell in love with all of the characters in this book but in a different way.

Grif- being the first to be there for verity and make her feel wanted.
Dean- for being a needy hot Omega
Jonas- for lifting Verity when she needed support
Aj- for the cows and goats and bunnies!!!iykyk

Verity had had it tough, always being used, and never put first, I'm glad she got away from her parents and grew onto herself while looking after her sister.

It takes strength to lean on others, and she's learning to do that with the guys! While proving herself to be the little Alpha she is.

I'm also glad it wasn't verity's fault at the end because that would have destroyed her!

I can't believe you left me on that cliffhanger, I can't t wait till December to read the next book!

I absolutely devoured this book, I was completely hooked from the very beginning. The storyline has substance and depth, love the push / pull between them.
The elements of hidden designations was fascinating, as was the pack dynamics.
The steamy scenes were hot AF.
Overall a brilliant omega read, with a brutal cliffhanger ending. Can’t wait for book two

I really liked this book. I liked it so much I bought the book and pre-ordered the second.
Verity is an alpha female in her early twenties, she's intelligent, gifted, driven, empathic, responsible and caring. She's also self conscious with her designation. Her parents refused to develop her instinct and instead repressed them leaving her unfulfilled.
Verity meets Griff on a plane and they have an instant connection but lose touch, ultimately reconnecting several months later when she meets the other members of Griff's pack.
I liked that the designations were more than and that the characters were layered.
I liked that damaged people could still be desired and not abused in this story.
I liked that Verity is the Mum and Alpha that her parents aren't.
I love the siblings and how they're a big network of live and support.
I immediately tried to buy a pygmy cow and knit it a sweater.
This book was happy and lovely.

I’m a huge fan of omegaverse novels and I’ve been on quite a binge read of them lately but this novel has a totally different take compared to what I’ve been reading. I loved the fact there are other designations alongside the expected ABO, that’s something that I’ve rarely seen. I also really enjoyed the story and it was different having the FMC being an alpha rather than an omega. I found this to be quite intriguing and it really appealed to me, especially after seeing this book recommended so much online. The characters were great and I can’t wait for the next book to release to see how the story continues and concludes. Overall, this is a book I would highly recommend reading.
