Tower of Dawn

I really didn't care for Chaol. My opinion of him didn't change with this installment. All he cared about was his useless prick that he sticks into every hole he can and then thinks that equals immediate marriage. I dont blame his dad for hating him. Must suck having a useless son. I only cared about Nesryn. I think this book would've been better if Chaol didn't exist and focused more on her and the mission to bring in more troops and reinforcements. Her role could've been expanded on ten times as much if Chaol wasnt around. I would've found the book to be more enjoyable. SJM still hasn't discovered the worth to cutting off useless characters. She keeps too much baggage which leads to wasted page space and character potential. Yrene didnt deserve to be with a wimp like Chaol. His uselessness only dragged her down. She deserved a better MAN. A man not a boy.

I started reading this book, and when I realized that the characters I cared about were not in it until the last few pages, I turned to those pages and never bothered with the rest. That's the first time I've stopped in the middle of a chapter/section/paragraph very in any book. Even books I found to be horribly written I have finished on principle, but not this one. I never really liked Chaol, and Nesryn wasn't interesting to me in the previous book. It was kind of horrible to realize I bought a book thinking that it was the sequel to the previous one, when it's just a side story that I couldn't find it in myself to care about since I'd have to wait another year for the sequel I'd been waiting for. I've read this series of books 3 times in total and I've skipped this book every single time. I doubt I'll ever read it. I'm sure it's well written and for many people that liked those characters it was a wonderful purchase. It just wasn't for me.

Albeit having bit of a slow beginning, once the pace kicks up, it definitely follows suit to the rest of SJM's books. The respective stories between Chaol and Nesryn are incredible and heart wrenching. Like any other book by Sarah, of course there is a crazy gut dropping plot hit/twist. Definitely read i!
