The Flawed Legacy (Legacy of the Shadow’s Blood Book 1) Kindle Edition
Lexi is a magic-wielding former assassin who broke away from the shadowy organization that trained her.
Working as a private investigator, her latest case takes her and her partner to Palm Springs, where a shifter is being harassed by a local businessman. But with pack politics and rivalries, this is far more than a property deal gone bad.
Far worse, for Lexi, is that her local contact is her long-time nemesis, the gay vampire detective Dick. If the case doesn’t kill her, working with him again might!

About the author

Hailing from the Midlands, England, E.G. Bateman has been writing since 2014 while she worked full time as a project support specialist. It wasn’t until 2019 that Bateman began writing full time and since then she has turned her passion of writing into books which have generated a great fan following. She has published nine novels and is currently working on her third series. Her characterization and gift for writing compelling dialogue make her books a fun read, leading bestselling author Michael Anderle to describe Elaine’s unique ability as “Phenomenal” …a badge of honor Elaine says she will never let him forget.
She lives with her family and five dogs.
She is active in the author community, and her love for all things Buffy endures.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2020This series has some really wonderful characters. The rather unconventional 'magic' in the world comes together really well without any over-explaining. The suspense winds up wonderfully, and is definitely a page turner by the time you get near the conclusion. I recommend this series. I am excited to get the next book as soon as I have finished up writing this. Another great series published by LMBPN. As a side note, be sure to check out the author notes at the end. I love the story of how E.G. Bateman ended up collaborating a series with Michael Anderle! Also, good on ya Michael for giving this series a go. Excellent decision. ;) My thoughts for the series? More, more, more! 😀
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2021The Flawed Legacy is the first book in the Legacy of the Shadows Blood series by E. G. Bateman and Michael Anderle.
I was prepared, from reading others reviews, but having what is supposed to be the first book in a new series start somewhere in an obvious continuation is still rather frustrating. The only reason I feel the need to check out the previous book is for some more Dick and Lexi hilarity. And possibly for the hope of seeing how her relationship with Scott came about.
I wonder how the Kindred will come to be apart of their future. They seem like a whole box of crazy honestly. That the supernatural community as whole places their protection behind this obviously corrupt and dysfunctional organization is not a practically good omen for the rest of the series.
Delores is an extremely entertaining character. I’m infatuated with her shrinking ability, and that she adds a small does of fae-ness to this tale. I love that we will see more of Dick within Lexi’s journey to uncover her past, he’s highly entertaining. Especially in how these two bicker, banter, and play off each other. Suffice to say I don’t think he’ll be bored in her presence. I wonder if Betsy will be a more permanent member of their de facto gang?
Also, she is decidedly cute/deadly animal sidekick lacking. This should be resolved with due haste. Preferably something with a sense of humor, knack for destruction, and possibly eating her annoying enemies. I’m not picky.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2020I really like all the characters in this book. Lexi, Scott, Dick and Delores make a great team and are a mix of different paranormal species. There is lots of fun, action and mayhem in the book and the storyline keeps you reading til the end. I am looking forward to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2022This story has a different magical theme, the Kindred seem more like a Mafia, than good guys. It felt like Lexi and Scott's story, before the start would have been interesting, but the action to help Kate, escalates to a fast pace, that keeps the story moving! We learn about her past, it seems, as she does, and it works to build mystery. Look forward to more!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2021I don’t know if there was a prequel to this book, but it felt like it. I felt like I went into the story on the second book in a series. I even double checked to make sure it was the first one. That being said, it was a really good story and it did go into enough background about the characters that we could figure out what was going on. I felt there was a little bit off with the pace of the story, it got a little slow in some parts, but it was still mysterious and exciting enough and the dialogue was funny enough to hold interest. The characters are interesting and quirky, and with enough faults to be realistic as people. I’m looking into the prequel (which is mentioned at the end of the book) and will probably read that before I get to the next in this series, simply because I like to know the history of the characters. However, I will definitely be reading more in this series. And MA—I love apples too😉.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2021Congratulations to E.G. Bateman for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m looking forward to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2022I agree with one of the previous reviewers about feeling like I had missed a prequel. The dynamics of and between the characters reveal themselves if you just hang in a bit. Funny and action packed. Looking forward to the rest of this series and glad to have discovered Ms. Bateman! (Have been reading Yoda for years).
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2021Because I was lost. The organization Kindred wasn't explained well. There was little or no background on the main characters. Not much for World Building, either.
Turns out there is a freebie book offered on another website. Likely it gives the background missing in this 'first' book in a series. Grrrrrr. Sorry, but if it ain't on Amazon, I don't read it. Can't be bothered, and I really don't want unwanted emails due to signing up on an Author's website.
In spite of it all, though, I enjoyed this story. Action, various Supernaturals, decent writing, and a touch of humor. Good ending. Will I read the next book? Probably.
