Cold Cases and Sweet Redemption

SWAT Lt. Chance Bowers’ life is in turmoil. Does he really have a death wish? PTSD, the horrors of abuse, addictions and the fear of anyone leaving him has ruined his life. He destroyed the marriage with, Dolan Sharp, who always loved and tried to give Chance what he needed, but Chance didn’t love Dolan the same way. Dolan had moved on but Chance followed him, but it was truly over.

One year ago, Chance had walked into the Outreach and Boss had turned him over to the kitchen manager, Bart Hastings. Bart had lived on the streets after his time in the military. He felt his PTSD endangered his family and his horror still remains with him. He never stopped loving his family but still lives away from them in a life of solitude. The Outreach and the strip are his home away from his small apartment.

During festivities at the Outreach a sniper has put Vega and Sierra in the line of fire and Chance goes into action. Dolan of course is not happy, he thinks Chance has been taking unnecessary chances with his life. Is Chance just doing his job and protecting others or does he live for the danger. There’s only one person who can help Chance and that’s Bart.

The cold case crew will come together to protect and investigate why Chance is now a target. It will all stem back to his own personal nightmare. No matter how Bart has taken Chance under his protection and unique care, Chance still needs answers. The only problem is, he will face his nightmare for those answers that he seeks. Will it make Chance revert back to his life of pain and self-harm or will Bart save him forever?

I have to commend J.M. Dabney, first and foremost, for always taking the subject matter of: abuse, self-harm, self-image and serious trigger matters and treating them professionally and positively with never the intent to offend anyone. They always project positive feedback and solutions in the novels that they write. They also have an expert understanding of the unique dynamic of Dom/sub, with this case. They portray Bart as the perfect Dom and Chance as the sub, but both will find what they need in each other. The Cold Case series is also about mature men, most past the age of forty. They’ve all had their own personal trauma and disappointments in their lives but there’s still a spark left in all of them, that brings new life and happiness to them.

J.M. Dabney also does an outstanding job in keeping all of the Cold Case crew involved in the story, no matter what, no one is missed. They bring out all the talents, investigative skills and the love that they all share that makes them a unique family. Even though “Cold Cases and Sweet Redemption” isn’t exactly a cold case, it takes everyone of the Cold Case crew to lend their expertise in helping Chance, as he will face the narcissistic sociopath and those that follow him.

Beside the Cold Case family there’s a new family. Bart Hastings will reunite with his entire family and they will show the love and support they give to Bart and Chance. And there’s a new member of the SWAT team, Trey Callaghan, someone to watch for in the future.

J.M. Dabney is outstanding and has created another novel that I highly recommend. “Cold Cases and Sweet Redemption” and the entire “Cold Case” series is spectacular and once again, I’m ready for the next book!
