      Don't look now, but he's here.

      I dare anyone to not look when someone says 'don't look now'. It's impossible. I automatically turn in my chair and look out over the tops of the cubicles.

      The boss is here. Sebastian Reid, CEO of Reid Technologies since his father retired a few months back. Sebastian Reid, tall and impeccably dressed and gorgeous. Sebastian Reid, unwitting receiver of my unrequited lust.

      He's easy to spot. He towers over the bald head of our department lead, Jerry, as he hustles to meet our new CEO and usher him into his office.

      I said 'don't look', Charlie.

      Can't help it. My eyes burn into the back of Sebastian Reid's head as he disappears behind a door. Finally, I drop my eyes to the girl in the cubicle opposite my own. Sarah, brilliant and adorable, with pink and blue mermaid hair, and my best friend since I started here eight months ago.

      You should go to the office. I'm sure there's something you need to speak to Jerry about. Sarah grins wickedly, the deep dimples in her cheeks contrasting her mischief with a deceptive innocence. The new boss is gay, you're a fuckhot twink, I think it's a rule that you have to introduce yourself.

      I'm pretty sure it's not a rule. Still, it's tempting. I contemplate sabotaging the printer, but then my unhelpful imagination has me bursting into Jerry's office covered in toner.

      Not cute. Not sexy. 'Awkward programmer' is almost my entire personality, I don't need to compound it—in front of my brand new boss slash epic workplace crush—by adding 'klutz who should never ever touch the hardware'—

      Stop thinking, Sarah says, interrupting my spiraling thoughts. There's a reason I love her. Just do it.

      I shake my head. Turn around and get back to work. I've got shit to do. Jerry wants this patch by the end of the day.

      Sarah twirls on her chair to face her monitor. I'll tell you when he comes out, she hisses. But this time you better not look.
