About this ebook

One day I woke up and realized that I was selling myself short. And what I was meant to do wasn't exactly what I thought.

As a productivity writer, it was normal for me to write about routines and to-dos and plans but…something was missing. There was a part of myself that I was undervaluing. It was the part of me that didn't need everything figured out or perfect plans—the part of me that just knows where I'm going. Even if it's not fully figured out.

From there I went from being just a productivity writer, to fully embracing my process as a sensitive, intuitive, creative writer and artist.

If you are an empathetic creative who's looking to bring more trust into your creative process, then this curated collection of posts from my blog shows what it looks like to do that. After ten-plus years of blogging, I've finally collected together my favorite posts that share what working with my intuition looks like for me.

I hope this collection becomes a reference that you can regularly revisit and find inspiration from, especially when you need creative clarity and are struggling to trust the process.

Traveling by Starlight - Arcadia Page

    Introduction

Here's an often asked question about creativity:

How do you know when a piece of work is done?

Every artist probably has their own answer to that, but here's mine:

I don't know when a piece of work is done. I feel it.

When creating a piece, there's a feeling I get that tells me, This is enough.

It's like when you just know not to add another bit of decor to a room, not to add more salt to a recipe, or as crazy as it sounds—not to eat another piece of food.  Because anything more will feel like too much.

That's when I know a creative project is done. It's a process of hearing and trusting my inner creative compass. It's a sense that gets stronger and more accurate as it's used over time. And no matter who you are, you have this sense of creative direction within you too.

The problem is that the louder our surroundings, the harder it is to hear the instructions that come from it. And often, due to comparing our work to that of others, we stop listening to it because we lose trust in the process of developing our own creative taste.

In this modern world, working with your creative intuition can be so difficult. We're constantly exposed to the processes of others, which can give us inspiration but can also drown out our personal connection to the methods that could work best for us. Creating with using intuition as a guide is also challenging because creative hunches tend to run on their own schedule, so trusting the process is definitely easier said than done.

Then as if all of that isn't enough, there's the fear. Fear of how your work will be received, the fear of doing things in unusual ways, and not fitting in with whatever is considered mainstream and trendy at the moment. All of these are obstacles that can make following your unique creative direction difficult. The external noise is like light pollution, blocking out our inner stars and internal guidance. But the stars are still there—it's just that it's now necessary to move to where there’s less interference.

This book is a collection of lightly edited posts from my blog that share how I've learned to trust my intuition in my creative process and beyond. I also share my simple and personal methods for detaching from the noise and creating space for reflection. All of this is a clear acknowledgement of the role intuition has played in my creative process and a documentation of what it takes to work with the fickle, confusing, and sometimes circular nature of intuition and channel that into meaningful and impactful projects.

Through a lot of emotional struggle, I've learned (and I'm still learning!) that it's not about doing what's already out there but doing whatever is unique to me.

I believe that the idea of having a partnership with your intuition is important because as a creative, especially when you're sensitive and intuitive, it's easy to get so caught up in the methods of others that it can be hard to trust your own inner creative compass when it comes to your work.

I hope that this collection of posts inspires you to trust in the process—the way it unfolds and the timing. I also hope that this collection can serve as a guide to help you listen to your creative intuition a little more, to trust it, to create space for it, and even find healing in it.

While these posts can be read for free on my blog, I've compiled them into this curated ebook so you can enjoy them without distraction if you wish. And it also gives you an opportunity to support my work, so thank you!

To be honest, my blog can be a bit overwhelming. It's full of so many tips and tricks I've learned over the past ten plus years. So I've created this collection with a focus on what I feel is the most important when it comes to learning to follow what I call your inner creative compass.

    As a highly sensitive empath,
