I've always been skeptical of ghost related romances but these two authors have quickly changed my mind. Bedlam's Playground was the perfect combination of spooky and spicy that locks you in and doesn't let you go until it's finished. I couldn't put it down, and have already read it more than once.

The Phantom Chasers make a living by exploring haunted places and live streaming their experience. But this haunted insane asylum may be more than they bargained for. Mary, James, Nick and Connor are in for a wildly haunting time as they spend the night exploring the fate of Conroy Davies.

I was absorbed in the story. I had to find out what happened to all of the patients in the asylum, but was also afraid for Mary and her guys with all of the creepy things happening to them. And the level of spice in this book! I melt for a dirty mouth, and there is plenty of that to go around here and then some.

This is a why choose romance with some dark themes. Check the trigger warnings. But this is definitely at the top of my Halloween recommended reads. I'm so excited that they plan to write more and can't wait to find out what happens next!

What did I just read? And, can I have some more please? Seriously, this was weird and creepy and also sexy? I have so many questions. Basically, I need book two yesterday. The steamy scenes were off the charts hot. I do want to know a lot more about these characters though. Some parts felt a bit rushed. We started with some clear underlying attractions between the characters with a pretty intense will they/won't they vibe going on. But it rushed pretty quickly into full blown acceptance of the relationship after only one slightly traumatic steamy scene. Anyway, it's definitely worth a read though and I'll be anxiously waiting for book 2. Safe to say it's unlike anything I've read before.

I have decided to give this book 3.5 ✨️ for the simple reason that there was no trigger warning list at all at the beginning or anywhere in the book and when I looked at the authors pages I only found just 5 trigger warnings. This why choose book gets VERY dark from the start.

So here's your warning! This book includes mentions of childhood r4p£, ch¡ld @büse, poss£ssions, smurd€r, decap¡tat¡0n(off page), vi0lence, mentions of p€d0ph¡l¡a(off page), mentions of electrocshock therapy(off page), N0n C0n by poss€ssion, r4pë by ghost, Dùb Con, degr4d4t¡on, and abúse of forcibly admitted lgbtq+ and mentally ill patients by family in an asylum (including children). Apologies if I missed a few, but those are the ones that came to mind immediately.

Now onto the actual book review. I will admit the overall plot was good, even if the novella was short, I got a bit of the characters background to be able to connect with them enough to enjoy and understand some of their actions and mindsets. The writing was immersmive and helped me paint a great pixture of what was happeneing in my mind as I read each word. The ghost chasing was entertaining and creepy at times. I found it entertaining when Billy was involved and when the actual ghost hunting was occuring. Or when I would get glimpses of the asylum and Conroy, the spirit of a serial k¡ller's history, as disturbing as they were. I honestly still don't know what to think of Conroy yet, but I hope to figure it out throughout the series.

Now my problem is that even if I was able to connnect with Mary, Nick, and Connor, I can't really say the same for James. At times I felt he was a tad selfish and cold, to the point I felt completely disconnected from his character at the end, which I hope will change, as this is a new series. This would be a great read for people who don't have any triggers and want that creepy Halloween vibe with some ghost hunting thrown in the mix. This book does have a slight cliffhanger at the end though.

Ok... I admit it took me a bit to read this one. I don't do a lot of spooky things. I do like Halloween reads, but sometimes the ghosts are too much. Once I looked past the creepy and stopped getting goosebumps from head to toe, I couldn't put it down.

This one is a short-ish read and I loved it!! Mary, James, Nick and Connor are ghost hunters and decide to go to a haunted asylum for the night. The encounter what they came for and then some. Even though it has succeeded in scaring the pants off of me, there were some funny parts where I did laugh out loud. With all this being said... I've got to make sure I keep my big girl pants on for Silent Night Theme Park...

I couldn’t find the trigger warning for this book. So I went in with my eyes wide open. It starts off with a bang and it don’t slow down. It was a pretty good read. Pretty rushed and the actual trauma primly not handled well but I like the writing and I’m looking forward to more.

I’m not sure how to feel about this. I’m not a horror reader but loved the parts with the ghosts. The “smut” felt weird and I truly believe that the book either need no smut or to be longer to make it work better. The POVs were hard to follow, it seems like the author didn’t always announce when it changed. I may or may not try the next book since this one ends in a cliff hanger.

What a awesome short dark, spook-tastic, ride ever! If you’re good with triggers, and need a quick reading slump pick me up, or need something fast paced without feeling like it’s moving faster than the storyline can, this is the one!

(Triggers: there are a lot but the way they play out and are handled is very well cared for by the author. They were not made light of, and characters took them seriously)

Mary, Connor, James and Nick are the Phantom Chasers. They seek out haunted locations to try and get proof of the unknown.
When they travel to an asylum to investigate the story of a serial killer they got more activity then they bargained for.
Connor is possessed by the serial killer and has a little fun with the others.

This was dark, twisted and creepy, it’s not going to be for everyone. Make sure to check the trigger warnings before jumping in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncomfortably enjoyable
Reviewed in Canada on November 3, 2022
I feel weird saying I enjoyed this book because it was an uncomfortable read to say the least! The trigger/content warnings are not listed at the beginning and they should have been (I think the authors forgot of uploaded the wrong version because they do say to check the TW/CWs in the book description on Amazon). So here they are: non consensual relationships, talk of CSA, degradation, mental illness, 1950s mental illness treatment such as electrochocs leading to death. This might not be an exhaustive list as I might forget some things. If these things do not bother you, than I totally recommend this book! It was creepy and a perfect spooky season read! The spice is well written and I loved that it’s multiple POVs. I can’t wait for the next book in the series because I am anxious if I’m being honest!

5.0 out of 5 stars First book from this author. I am glad!

    This scared me.

Definitely check out the trigger warnings on the author's page and be prepared before going in. But, if you do go in blind then remember that there Is going to be some F'd up stuff that happens, which I think some people won't be okay with. I wouldn't have been too if this was some other book. Since, this was horror I was expecting to be creeped out and this book did a good job at it.

By the end, I cared for the characters. I wanted them to get out of the situation together.

As I said before, this had some dark topics as horror elements, with reverse harem romance and MM. The scenes with Billy made me sad for him and also, laugh out at his antics. This was a great Halloween month read.

4.0 out of 5 stars why choose ghost hunters
Reviewed in Canada on March 9, 2023
Gimme all the CA Rene, I always have such a good time reading Chrissy’s books and this one was no exception, even with a new to me coauthor.

This was wild - the story follows a group of 4 ghost hunters who stream all of their explorations. When they choose the site of a long abandoned asylum that housed the most deplorable criminal ever, the hauntings start.

I wasn’t sure exactly how this was going to play out but it was wild and twisted and kept me intrigued (and also a little scared. I couldn’t read this at night lmao).

Excited to see how these two continue this series now that they’re out of the asylum!

Full of on page dub/non con and lots of references to p3dophelia and SA of minors, so please keep that in mind prior to picking up.
