With a fanatical enemy in pursuit, can New Glasgow hold on against the odds?
Locked into battle with a relentless foe, Duncan's marines are bystanders for the battle. With their ship in single combat with the enemy, they hope they last long enough to repel boarders and contribute to victory.
On the fringes of the FUP, a new threat arises. Exiled to a backwater planet due to his perceived failures in New Glasgow, Major Dietler's battalion faces a new adversary on the remote outpost world of Gascony. Out gunned and unsupported, he must make tough decisions for the future of his command.
Will the FUP be willing to pay the price of war on multiple fronts or make an uneasy peace to keep the union together?

Thank you so much to my wife and son for their love and support. I couldn't hope for a better family. After all, they put up with my nonsense constantly. And thanks to the quirky little town of my friends' invention. It's a fun playground. Thanks for sharing.

Chapter 1
Distress Call
The St Mary of Valencia came within close sensor range of the wreck. She dispatched both shuttles to investigate. Duncan was aboard the first shuttle with a team of four marines. Duncan sat up front with the pilot and navigator.
They made their first pass by the wreck. It was the same class of a ship as the Saint Mary with the exception it wasn't a Q-Ship. It was exactly what it looked like, a large freighter with several passenger pods.
A debris field floated around the wreckage. The ship had been pummeled into submission. They identified several life pods, but none had survivors aboard. Many had indications they were fired upon.
Duncan, opened a frequency to the other shuttle, Are you catching this on camera?
The reply came quickly, Yes, captain. We are sending this via tight beam to the Saint Mary and then from there on to four of the news agencies. We have received confirmation from two of them already.
As Duncan's shuttle maneuvered toward the stricken ship's airlock, she thought she could see a light moving within.
She keyed her command net within her armor, Listen up. We may have survivors on board. Or the FUP may have laid a trap for us. Be on your toes. Confirm your targets before opening fire. Understood?
The muted response returned, Yes, Captain.
The airlock was still in good shape. They could make a successful connection. There was an environment on the other side of the door. The marines readied themselves and stacked up to storm the entrance. With a hiss, the lock opened, and the Duncan's troops stormed in.
The hallway was in good shape. There were no signs of fighting in this part at least. Duncan hoped that the FUP hadn't boarded the vessel. When word came to them about the Shrike, it had been. The FUP reported that the crew resisted arrest and fought to the last man. Somehow, the Adamant hadn't lost a single person in the fight. Those results were too lopsided for a ship resisting. New Glasgow authorities and her allies assumed that the boarders executed all aboard.
They had no idea what they would find. They moved to the first compartment in the corridor and opened the hatch. There were four bodies huddled together on the floor. A quick scan of the forms showed that they were still alive. With a wave, her team pulled the people out and back to the shuttle.
Communicating back to the Saint Mary, We have found survivors. We are loading them on the shuttle.
One of her marines stayed behind to guard the shuttle while the rest of the team regrouped to continue the search of the vessel. They moved to the area that Duncan had seen the lights moving. The corridor still had power. They had checked five other rooms with no additional survivors. The
