She said twirling about him, in front of the closet door mirrors, the taffeta skirt four inches above her knees, the spinning black material forming an awning over her pride — a ‘new knee’ job.
Great,
he said, his breath streamed outward heavy like the defunct sidewalk vents of the intercity office buildings.
Her lower lip dropped, she stopped, the spinning had affected her equilibrium, stabilized she stepped back into the hooker-yellow sweatpants, pulled them over her wool panties and under the black skirt. The skirt fell to the floor, Bonnie’s knees strained at the yellow pants, her slender hips, firm derriere, flat stomach, disappeared underneath the double weight sweat cloth.
Frank shuddered, tugged at the wool sweater, the fingerless mittens trembled, a quake rattling through the skin and bones loosened the grip, the V-neck cardigan once virgin white dropped open, exposing the long underwear top dingy, streaked with stains, still reddish brown despite home-made bleach and cold water.
