image-placeholderI am not a… ' summer person.'
There. I said it. The confession is out. Let the church bells ring.
I enjoy the blue skies and bright, sunny days that sprinkle the mind with positivity and feel-good thoughts. It's certainly nice to go to the beach. Nice to bury your toes in the sand and feel the sun's rays hit your sunscreen-covered skin. Also nice to walk around without a multitude of coats and hats and scarves to ward off the winter chill. Patio season is… you guessed it… nice.
It's all 'nicey nicey' until it comes to trying to look like your glamorous self in the sizzling temperatures.
I just don't do well in the scorching heat. I literally melt. My makeup slowly slides off my face like an egg shifting to one side of the frying pan. My hair is thick and long and I must tie it up during the hot summer days, whereas in the colder season, I wear it loose and styled without the annoying frizz turning my entire head into an oversized hay stack.
I cannot seem to think in the summer. The temperature soars so high it literally cooks my brain. Nor am I a fan of tanning. My skin does not tan like all the other bathing beauties! It doesn't turn a warm shade of gold. Oh no! It turns splotchy and blotchy and an angry shade of red. You know, charred, like burnt barbeque. I just cannot sport that wind-burned look very well. I praise those gorgeous ladies that can. With my melting skin, frizzy hair and cooked skin, I look like an inelegant mess... a human paella dish!
I think you are getting the picture that I love glamour and poise and feeling comfortably cool. Love it- I tell you!
Let's peek into my childhood so you can understand my ongoing obsession with being elegant in the winter as well as embracing a chic lifestyle.
It all started when I was a little duckling when being chic was first introduced to me. My mom would put on her pink sponge rollers and sprinkle a bunch on me too when I was four years of age. When she pulled out the rollers, I looked like a miniature Rita Hayworth- and I felt like a princess! My curls were bouncy and glamorous. Best of all, my mother and I matched- a beauty queen and her mini-me. This became an ongoing Friday evening tradition for several years.
It fascinated me to watch my mother put her makeup on with a gentle, precise hand. She knew to keep the pressure light, adding enough product to bring out her natural beauty. When she
