Life's a Witch: Enemies to Lovers Romance (Her Guardians Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 477 ratings

What is it that they say? Life's a witch and then you die.

Stealing a magical object wasn’t my smartest move. Scored me imprisonment at the Guild of Guardians. Home to magical criminals and murderers.

The only way to pay off my sentence? Appeal the conviction or hunt vampires with a team of four dangerous men, and hope I don’t die trying.

One little problem. I’m a comic book nerd, a chemistry witch, not a warrior. I can barely hit a target with a knife, and my alphahole captain busts my lady balls. My team think I’m weak, a liability, and want me to fail.

I won’t let them break me, and I’m not sticking around long enough to explore the chemistry exploding between us.

Life's A Witch features plenty of action, four swoon-worthy men, and a heroine determined to end up on top. Tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, touch her and d!e, fated mates, forbidden romance, cinnamon rolls, golden retriever, and neurodivergent characters tropes.

This book contains dark elements with trigger warnings, suitable for 18+ readers. Later books in the series feature MM scenes and steamy AF group action. Ideal for fans of Tate James, JR Ward, and Rebecca Yarros.

Life’s a Witch is the first book in Skyler Andra’s Guild of Guardians series. Get ready to meet Astra. Astra just wants to help a friend. A friend who’s in a bad situation, but soon it’s Astra who’s going to be the one who is need of help. She gets caught stealing and is sent to the Guardians for the next 25 years for stealing from the Guild. Now, she has a whole new mess to deal with, but she doesn’t plan on going quietly.
Life’s a Witch is one of those books that grabbed you from the beginning and kept you page-turning! I love a good book that hooks me in and this book does exactly that. I will admit that I question Astra’s actions…quite often in this book. LOL! It all starts from the beginning with her deciding that answering a phone call during academy hours is the brightest thing to do. I get it; it’s in the name of helping a friend who has been wronged, but still. Then things just go from bad….to worse. I have to say that I like that the author doesn’t use the stereotypical characters. The author uses characters who aren’t the norm meaning that they have disabilities. As a person with a mild disabilities A.D.H.D. I love that they aren’t limited by them. Astra has some really cool abilities that I love when she uses them. Her breaking things down into their molecular basics are just honestly awesome.
This book is a lot of fun, but I have to agree with Tor on one thing…Knoxe needs to get the stick out of his butt. I mean…seriously! I get that losing someone close to you is hard and really messes with you, but dude!!! This guy is…over the top. Every time he opens his mouth rudeness pours out like crazy! There are moments of where I really just want someone to smack him or Duct tape his mouth shut lol. It just seems like he really doesn’t care about anyone or anything else other than getting back out on another mission to kill the one who ended his friend’s life. There are some moments of levity with him of where he tones down the jerk-y behavior…but they are few and far between.
Astra and Tor are the real driving force behind the humor in this book and I love it. I love seeing the chemistry spark up between them. I will admit that I roll my eyes at Astra a few times because she’s a bit ridiculous. The way her mind wanders off with her fantasies…LOL! Now, there are some odd…moments in this book. It’s like there are time skips? Astra gets a week in solitaire, Does she even serve her time? Then she gets some random guy to help her get to the training room because she’s lost, but…what happens to him? He’s there one minute and gone in a blink with no explanation. It’s just weird for me.
I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book has alternating chapters between the characters which really is great for giving readers a taste of all of them, though the story does focus on Astra mostly. I really enjoyed it. I get to see all the complexities of the characters and I love how the author builds the storyline. If you are looking for a good paranormal story with snark, drama and some steamy romance then I recommend this book! I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not. It my personal opinion!

I rated this is a 4 because of the creative uniqueness of the characters, world, and scenes. Being and avid reader, there are a lot of characters and scenes I’ve never read before and that in itself was exciting.
It’s a slow burn, where the heroine is an amazingly herself and flawed women, which just makes you love her even more. The men are eclectic and distinct all on their own. It reminds me of Buffy met suicide squad.
An unfortunate event lands her in prison where she has to bring supernatural creatures in to justice with her team of misfit and broken men. It’s a slow burn and ends on what I would call a soft cliffhanger.
The book does start off dropping you right in the thick of it, where if feels like you’re being branched off from another series. Characters are introduced like you know them so it’s a little confusing for the first half. There is also a lot of grammar errors, timelines that get confusing, and scene fluidity issues, but as mentioned after about halfway through it starts calming down. I recommend powering through.

When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to finish it. It was very slow and obnoxious. All the reference to comic book stuff was very irritating It also reminded me of the movie guardians of the Galaxy. I was wondering if they author Had seen the movie and was pulling stuff out of there for this book. She had a very interesting name for the heroine in this book Astra Nomical. I thought that was a little ridiculous. There were definitely some good parts in this book. Once they stop blabbing all the time and actually started doing things made it more interesting. This is definitely an enemy to romance book because Astra does not get along with the head of her team, but yet they end up having sex and Astra can’t just leave it at one. Apparently she’s shooting for all four on her team. You would think that that would make it awkward for them to work together after they’ve had sex together. I’m not sure whether I’m going to read the next book in this series or not especially because, it seems like every time you turn a page in this book they are practically comparing everything to comic book characters, which does get annoying.

Love the storyline from beginning to end. This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions. When the FMC first joined the MMCs team each male character had their reservations on trusting her and her ability. The spice in this book was amazing.

I think I’m a fan of Skyler Andra’s solo writing, don’t get me wrong I liked the books she has coauthored but this book blew me away. I was fascinated from chapter one all the way through. All her characters are unique and I love Astra and love that she’s a character with Aspergers. It’s great to have that representation in books and then there is precious Pascal. Let me tell you all that Pascal is a precious treasure that must absolutely be protected. Skyler did an amazing job portraying someone with Autism. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I was really excited to read a book with multiple nuerodivergent characters. The care the author took to understand the processing and emotions caused by neurodivergency was clear.

Loved that my opinion of the male characters grew along with the main character, Astra's, and enjoyed the growth in the relationships throughout.

This book does have a couple plot holes and timeline wobbles, so if you're the unforgiving sort, it may be difficult to ignore. I didn't feel like they detracted from the plot development. I have not read other series from this author yet, but I absolutely will be reading her complete works!

    Absolutely loved this book.

I feel like I need to go to this prison knowing I could have a team of guardians like she has. Lol

It sucks that she was sent there in the first place but to be given a team of warriors who are all hotter than sin would definitely help.

I can’t wait to see what happens between them all in the next book and whether they manage to complete their mission or not.

This book hit a nerve with me but in a good way, the characters were believable and I could relate to them. The world building pulled me in and had me right there with them.
To see Autism protrayed this way is a positive thing, it really highlights how different those on the spectrum struggle with different things.

I'm undecided, the story is good as it's set in a prison and isn't the usual human girl gets powers meets mates plot. However these are the weakest supernaturals heartburn, diabetes, ms I wouldn't of thought it would be a thing for them. I like that it's set in Australia rather than the US or UK it's different with different landscapes to imagine. I'm unsure where this is heading so the next book will be the decider for me.

There is lots of background linking it to the rest of the universe.
I like the characters and how they’re developing.
