()
About this ebook
Somewhere someone in your life is experiencing death, grief, and unimaginable loss. Perhaps you yourself have experienced these monumental moments that shape our perception of the world. This book, and the process contained within it, is my response and expression of self-discovery as I processed the death of my father, the birth of my daughter, and a life irrevocably changed.
What you will find in this book is an easy to use writing method that you can implement in groups or individually with the people you love and care for to help them tell their life stories. I know this is no small promise and the book may not seem long enough to accomplish this, but I assure you it's all in there. You already have everything you need to help someone else rediscover their human dignity, this book makes it a little easier.
"When I heard about Gael's Legacy project and her approach to easily writing the story of your life, I IMMEDIATELY bought multiple copies. I have gotten profuse thanks from family members who are now deep into capturing those important memories and meanings from their lives!"
-Wendy White
"Recently my family interviewed my grandma on her 86th birthday. We realized how little we knew about her life and wanted to learn more about her. We used some of the questions and the format from Legacy Recorder.
It was an amazing experience. It was helpful to have a format to follow and so fun to learn about her childhood and marriage to my grandpa. I highly recommend Gael and the Legacy Recorder!"

CHAPTER ONE
Introduction to the Legacy Recorder
Why are we here?
Why are we here? What is the purpose of this rotating orb of life? What is the purpose of your life? You don’t have to know the answers to know that each person on this planet has a purpose. Whatever your beliefs, we are here for better or worse to creatively conspire together and live with dignity.
Dignity - the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect[1]
When someone loses their sense of dignity, their sense of self is lost as well. How does this happen? It happens when we deny that person the chance to live to their fullest potential. It happens as their voice becomes a whisper and as we snuff it out with neglect and marginalization.
The homeless elderly man you pass every day has a story to tell. Have you ever asked him what his full name is? Whether or not he like to travel? Or if he’s ever loved someone?
And if the homeless man is gone one day, will you give him a momentary thought? Or decide that he just moved on? Will you even notice?
Has anyone ever asked you these questions? Do you think they are worth answering? I do.
I know that my purpose is to inspire people to write down their stories. And not just to write them down but to ask deeper questions and to want to know the answers. I believe every person’s story is valuable and important.
When a person is asked to share their story, it gives them a renewed sense of self, dignity, and worth. The impact on the people who will hear the story will be immeasurable. We are losing stories every day, stories that have the potential to
