All Souls Near & Nigh (Soulbound Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 2,390 ratings

You can’t bargain with death if you’ve already sold your soul.

Special Agent Patrick Collins has been reassigned by the Supernatural Operations Agency to New York City. Navigating his new relationship with Jonothon de Vere, the werewolf he’s now soulbound to, is nothing compared to dealing with territorial disputes between the vampires and werecreatures who call the five boroughs home. But the delicate treaties that have kept the preternatural world in check are fraying at the edges, and the fallout is spilling into the mundane world.

Manhattan’s club scene is overrun with the vampire drug known as shine and the subways have become a dumping ground for bodies. When the dead are revealed as missing werecreatures, Patrick and Jono find themselves entangled in pack politics twisted by vampire machinations.

Learning to trust each other comes with problems for both of them, and the gods with a stake in Patrick’s soul debt aren’t finished with him yet. Bound by promises they can’t break, Patrick and Jono must find a way to survive a threat that takes no prisoners and is stalking them relentlessly through the city streets.

Old and new betrayals are coming home to roost but the truth—buried in blood—is more poisonous than the lies being spun. Trying to outrun death is a nightmare—one Patrick may never wake up from.

Damn what a ride. 5 Stars
Book 2 was just as intense and intriguing as the first book. One of the main things I enjoy most about this series (besides how hot Jono and Patrick are) is the worldbuilding. I love all the references to different mythologies, paranormal beings and deities.I also ejoyed the fact that Patrick and Jono are still learning about the boundaries of their relationship. What it means, what they mean to each other and how to navigate it given the dynamics of pack and the events that unfolded at the end of book 1.I already bought audiobook 3 because I am dying to read/listen to more. I'm also intrigued because I have a new favorite character... he is a pizza stealing, snack hoarding cutie, that I can't wait to learn more about in the next book.

All Souls Near & Nigh, the second book in Hailey Turner’s Soulbound series, is a five-star novel. I rarely give five-star ratings, but Turner demonstrates how a sequel can truly elevate a series. She brings New York City to life as a dark, thrilling paranormal landscape, filled with unique supernatural dynamics that transform the familiar into the extraordinary.

In this book, Patrick is learning to adjust to his relationship with Jono, and their connection feels authentic and layered. Patrick is used to his independence, so moving in with someone else—and learning to compromise—feels new and challenging. For instance, he sacrifices his smoking habit, aware of how Jono’s heightened sense of smell as a werecreature makes it tough to live with. These kinds of sacrifices show Patrick’s growing commitment and add a realistic layer to their relationship, making it feel relatable even within a supernatural context.

The central conflict centers on a string of mysterious werecreature deaths in New York City’s subway tunnels. This storyline introduces Wade, a scrappy, always-hungry teenager with a magnetic personality, who comes under Patrick and Jono's care. Wade is such a refreshing, unpredictable addition to the story, adding both levity and intrigue. I’m eager to see how his character develops in future books and how he continues to challenge Patrick and Jono’s relationship and responsibilities.

Though the novel starts at a slower pace, it quickly picks up, maintaining a gripping, adventurous rhythm. Turner’s richly detailed fight scenes bring NYC's train tunnels to life, capturing the eerie atmosphere of the city's underground. Just when it seems like the conflict is resolved, Turner masterfully twists the plot, setting the stage for even bigger challenges in book three.

Fans of urban fantasy with rich worldbuilding, LGBTQ+ representation, and complex, genuine relationships will love All Souls Near & Nigh. This series continues to offer strong character dynamics, high-stakes action, and a darkly fascinating view of New York’s supernatural side. Turner has made this sequel both exciting and emotionally rewarding, leaving readers eager for what’s next.

    **Possible Spoilers**
All Souls Near & Nigh is an excellent continuation of the Soulbound Series, and is filled with almost non-stop action. Even though the scope of the battles is not as big and overwhelming as in the first book, the intensity is just as strong and is wonderfully graphic. There are blood and gore, broken bodies and decapitations. Mmmmm, juicy stuff.
The diversity of the different supernatural groups and characters keeps the reader engaged and the main characters and their immediate associates constantly on guard. The change in status among the core group gives secondary characters the opportunity to take a more active role in the action.
The introduction of more Gods and Goddesses, unfamiliar to me but interesting nonetheless, keep the series fresh s as do the new secondary characters. Wade is particularly worthy of note. He is a quintessential teenager with the ability to bring down buildings. I hope to see more of him in subsequent books.
Throw in some of the Gods and other characters that played no small part in the success of the guys in the first book, and you have an amalgamation of power that could create power struggles that can destroy cities.
As they prepare and execute their strategies in what is more or less a supernatural turf war, Jono and Patrick, still at times tentative with each other, ultimately lean on each other to overcome these latest foes. Their connection is growing and is proving to be about more than just the soulbond. They can give and take as needed to function in their roles as law enforcement, God pack Alpha and soul bound mate. It's beautiful really, the way they accept each other. And when they connect physically, the passion is intense and life-affirming for them.
Gods, monsters, men, and mayhem. There's something for everyone. And, there is a freaking gargoyle! I hope we can see more gargoyles.
The author engages the reader’s imagination putting them right into the action. I have been looking forward to the release of All Souls Near & Nigh. I became invested in the lives of Patrick and Jono. The author, amid thenonstop action, made me care about these two and their supporters and I was cheering, groaning, laughing and crying right along with them.
I’m not familiar with a lot of the deities mentioned, I never was one for mythology, but the author uses them in a way that I don't have to rush to read some dusty tome to figure out who, what and why they are. All of the characters are interesting, well placed and believable.
I look forward to book three.

It’s interesting and fast paced. I know the 2 main characters have a soul bond and love each other but they still haven’t SAID it and it’s killing me lol.

I took a star away bc there were points where I felt the stories detail were a little excessive and I wanted more romance. Not just talking about sex but intimate moments where Patrick could be something other than “on the case/on the clock”.

That said it was a damn good story and me taking a star away may or may not be “fair” bc this is more of an action story than a romance story.

That said, this is my review and in my opinion the story as a whole would have had more nuance with a higher level of romance to fight scene ratio.

Will definetely be reading the next one though. Happy reading!

Complex, action packed with amazing world-building and incredible MC's! This is an incredible read with lots of additional intriguing characters and so much story-line development. The writing was fantastic and the creativity is out of this world great! i was so captivated with the characters and the variety. My mind had so much fun with all the werecreatures, mages, vampires, werewolfs, gods, immortals. Amazing read!!

I enjoy Patrick's snark and his learning to start to ask for help. I am just delighted with Juno's growly character traits that we see in this book. It is fun to see their interactions. I so do love their connection and chemistry!

This book is the second in this series and really must be read as the sequel to A Ferry of Bones & Gold. Book one laid so much foundation and character development that you will be doing yourself and the writer a disservice is you don't treat yourself to both books.

I absolutely love the series and this book on a reread. A few scenes were hard to read, especially on the first time reading. But it was easier the second time around and I'm totally ready to continue the series this time.

Some of the things I love about this series, are that the characters (both the main and side characters) are really well developed, while also having a great plot, action and suspense. Every time all the mythology appears just makes me want go get out all my old mythology books and start learning about it all over again (because apparently I forgot a lot since then).

    I filled a full page in my reading journal but can't really use any of it here because it's basically all spoilers. Just know that it involves a lot of hearts :D I love the evolving relationship between Patrick and Jono and can't wait where the story takes me. I just know that nearly all the Gods are total douchebags ^^;;

God, I loved this. SO MUCH. I'm already very much obsessed with this series and this second book is as explosive and wonderful as the first. I had to force myself to stop and breathe at times and do something else other than read, something like eating and sleeping and studying.
I really appreciated that we get to see much more of Jono here: he's much more present, with the same amount of chapters as Patrick. I loved him in the first book too but here we manage to dive into his thoughts and feelings entirely: we get to see how he sees the world around him and he shows a much more ruthless and violent streak that I really appreciated, and a protective and careful and loving one too that nearly made me cry.
"All Souls Near & Nigh" is also more gruesome and violent than the first book, with a couple of very brutal chapters that left me feeling terrified for these beloved characters.
Patrick, no surprises here, was my favourite. He's still the reckless, tough, sarcastic badass of the first book but he ends up showing, throughout the story, a very vulnerable and traumatized side that left me nearly weeping.
I loved all of the side characters (I can shamelessly state that I would die for Lucien and Carmen, murderous and savage as they are) and that ending left me both terrified and so damn excited to read the third book. I'll jump into that as soon as I get my pesky exams out of the way.

I loved this second instalment of Soulbound.

The first book was great, but this was even better.

I really enjoyed the story itself, the new gods we discover, the "i can't stop reading, I need to know what happens next". It was fast paced and so good.

I loved that we got to see more of Jono's point of view this time (especially around the 55-60% Mark).

I love these two characters and I am really liking where the story is taking us. They are both developing but staying true to the men we met in the first book and I really love that.

I can't wait for the next chapter in this story and all the possibilities of where it might take us

5.0 out of 5 stars Very strong sequel
Reviewed in Germany on May 2, 2019
I enjoyed the first book so much that I had to read the next one right away. All Souls Near & Nigh didn't disappoint. While the main thread of the story was pretty forward, there were a lot of minor threads that might or might not become important in a future book.

Though we haven't seen much on the romantic front between Patrick and Jono in this book, it is clear that their relationship gets stronger by the day and that they are a good fit for each other.

Helping out Lucien to establish his night court in NY is easier said than done for Patrick with Aztec gods in the picture. Add a crime ring involving werecreatures and Jono also gets involved. The god pack alphas don't seem to care, which irks him to no end and makes his standing in NY more difficult. It also lays the foundation for him to extend his small pack beyond Patrick. It remains to be seen where this tension will lead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ooohhhh~ Where are we going next?
Reviewed in Australia on March 20, 2019
All Souls Near and Nigh is perhaps not as explosive as the first book but my god a lot happened in this book, where to even begin. Since where we left off in the last book we know the threat to the world is not over yet and we follow Patrick as another case puts him back into it all.

    Some minor spoilers below.

Hailey has planted the seed of so many things to happen in the books to come that I just can't wait to read them. So many questions to be answered, what's going to happen with Jono and the NY god pack, the thing that was stolen what does it do? And Lucien, just Lucien, because the guy is a fascinating mystery. I don't know what else to say because I feel like if I discuss the book any further it might spoil the book and this is a book you should really experience for yourself.
