      And what can I do for you today, Officer Bellows?

      Mimi Powers folded her hands in front of her on the counter she stood behind in her shop and stared up at the police officer in his crisp blue suit. These little impromptu visits were nothing new to Mimi, she had endured visits from not only the police department personnel but also from government officials as well.

      All because she was an out and proud witch.

      And a good one, too.

      But the term witch held negative connotations. Fear, jealousy, and plain old prejudice kept the pests at her door. Every time she shooed them out of her establishment, they returned…like a bad dream or an unwanted suitor.

      Of course, that all changed when they needed something from her. Whether it be dark or light magic, healing or hexing, eventually their attitudes turned.

      Because Mimi was a benevolent witch – for the most part – she would assist those who once shunned her. Some even became her good friends.

      But this man, Brennan Bellows, had been an irritant for the last year or so. He used any and all excuses to interrupt her day. He was always around, so she was used to him and the banter they shared.

      Is it true your real name is Memory Powers? He asked, a wide, smug smile crossing his face."

      He was a handsome man for certain with his dark, rich red hair and green eyes. There was something about him that made Mimi question whether Officer Bellows was some form of vampire. Perhaps a psychic vampire who didn’t even realize it…or hid it well.

      Her true given first name, Memory, was something she tried to hide for so many years. Now, she embraced the rarity of the name.

      Yes, it is my real name. I also have two sisters, Maggie and Mallory. Their surnames are Powers, too.

      Charming, he said drolly. Of course, I would have bet that Powers was a name you chose yourself to make everyone aware of all those powers you claim to have.
