The Baby Bargain: A steamy, contemporary, billionaire romance (The Billionaire's Baby Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 2,084 ratings

Billionaire Harker has everything he wants, except a child.

He’s finally chosen the mother. Alison is brilliant, kind and hard-working. Her genes will mesh perfectly with his. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s spent the last year fantasizing about taking her to his bed and doing all kinds of deliciously wicked things to her.

Alison can’t believe that her boss wants her to have his kid and that he wants to do it the old-fashioned way. She can’t imagine having sex with him. He’s Harker. Sure he’s kind of sexy in a dark, brooding way and when he barks orders her body naturally responds, but still…sex with Harker? She can’t do that, or can she? His offer is hard to refuse, and she’d only have to be with him until she got pregnant. It shouldn’t take long, right?

This steamy, later in life, friends to lovers, romantic comedy will have you laughing out loud. Harker is brusque, alpha and bossy. Alison is fine with that in the workplace. He is her boss after all, but she’s not sure about having his child. He’s not a fool and knows that she won’t do it for free. All he has to do is find the right price. Everyone has one.

This is book 1 in a 4 book series. Harker and Alison's HEA is at the end of book 4.

Ellis O. Day loves romance—the steamier the better. She writes steamy, contemporary romantic comedies (or Dom-coms) about the hot men of La Petite Mort Club and the women who drive them crazy. She believes that the cornerstones of all great romantic relationships are love and friendship, trust, attraction and fabulous sex. Her stories contain all of these (especially the fabulous sex).

This was a great story and I can’t wait to finish it. They both have hang ups and like each other but don’t know how to talk to each other without fighting. It’s going to very interesting as the series goes on.

The Baby Bargain is the first book in The Billionaire's Baby series and is the story of Alison and Harker. This story also weaves in La Petite Mort Club into the story and previous characters cross over. But you can read this book, and I am thinking the series, as a stand-alone so you don't need to have read the other books/series about this club.
Harker owns a computer software company with Merri and Tobias. He is rich, entitled, a jerk if you want my opinion, and a Dom who likes to play at La Petite Mort Club. Alison works for Harker as a computer programmer writing code and working on his latest program. She is his most valued employee if truth be told and he knows it, but he does not let her know it. Harker is used to people doing whatever he says and agreeing with him, after all that is what his money and status buy. But Alison is not like that at all and she does not take his grumpiness too seriously, after all he is always screaming for her about something.
Harker has everything he wants but lately he feels there is something missing, a child of his own. So after thinking about it and realizing there are no suitable women to marry he decides he wants Alison to be the mother. She is smart, pretty, can carry a conversation, is spunky and has good genes. When he finally tells her what he wants she laughs at him, as she cannot believe he is serious. When Harker makes Alison realize that he is serious she has some thinking to do, as he is offering a lot of money. Alison is still not having it but Harker is like a dog with a bone he is not about to give up and uses some underhanded tactics which include her bodacious aunt. So Alison has some terms of her own as she cannot bring shame to her mother or family. If Harker wants her to have his baby then they will need to be married, which she thinks will he will never agree to. Some things are just meant to be and that includes Alison and Harker....so get the white dress and veil ready because the is about to be a wedding. Wait until the wedding night though.............now that is a story all on it's own.

I quickly read this book once I loaded it up, as it is easy reading. I am of two minds about this story at the moment. I really enjoyed the laughs, frustrations, witty banter, Alison's spirit and some of the sexy fun at the club. But I have to say that Harker was wearing on my last nerve a couple of times, and I wanted to kick some a$$ because of it. I will have to read the next book to decide whether he is able to redeem himself at this point or not. Be warned that this series is 4 books and each ends in a cliffhanger leading to the next.

I just wanted something different but I am pleasantly surprised by this book.

Alison is annoying. To me at least. But I appreciate her honesty and her limits. I can see her adjusting to the series of events and transitions from employee to whatever she is to Harker.

Harker started as the type A personality I usually love but then he got a little soft. I don't know. I love his character though. I just wish this story didn't have dom/sub undertones. I avoid those books for a reason but I must say the sex is good. Though I expected more.

By this point, I thought Alison would be pregnant and into the second trimester. However, we have only been working out the kinks of all this.

I will continue with this series because I want to see what they become to each other. I know Harker's feelings. I am still uncertain about Alison's feelings and I want to see them as parents.

I absolutely love these characters. The humor is phenomenal, and it takes quite an effort to bring these two together. Beautifully written.

Ellis O. Day is one of my favorite authors. This book, like all of her other stories was funny at times, and definitely steamy at others. I'm not sure I would have been able to put up with Harker's quirks. I mean sometimes he shows no emotions at all, I mean he can be a serious robot. He wants to have an heir and asks his worker to fulfill that fantasy for him but because of her mother's thoughts on marriage, Alison requires them to get married first. I loved this story line and after the way Harker acted some times, I am definitely eager to read the next book in this series. I also appreciated how the author incorporated some of the previous stories we have read about in the La Petite Mort Club books that Ellis O. Day has written previously. I definitely recommend this book to readers who enjoy steamy, kinky reads.

This is spread out across 4 books and is not worth the money. It is poorly written with typos and a lack of emotion. The characters are completely insensitive to each other’s feelings. At least the heroine is well meaning but the love interest is a jerk who holds his power over her and insults her to make his ego feel better. Instead of telling her he likes her, he essentially forced her into marriage to get what she’s worked hard for so he can have sex with her. He makes her feel like she’s unattractive and feeds her insecurities when she accidentally bruises his ego by not falling all over herself at the chance to sleep with him and have his baby. Even in his head he constantly thinks he’s only attracted to her personality because physically he has had better. He even cheats on her on their wedding night with an ex who he thinks is prettier after he made them sign a contract demanding monogamy; if he wasn’t interrupted, it would have been completely unforgivable. How is anyone supposed to feel sexy or wanted when their partner doesn’t even think they’re pretty? This is completely offensive.

The story is merely started in this part. Tantalising glimpses of hot scenes to follow are provided. You have to read the whole set to judge the story

5.0 out of 5 stars The start of another brilliant series

When you have waited for ages for a new book from a favourite author there is an anxiety; will it be worth the wait? will it be as good as you hoped? are they still a favourite?
The answer is Yes, yes, oh, yes!
The Baby Bargain is the first of four stories about Harker ('Don't call me Gus') and Alison - whose mouth has no brake - and they form part of the La Petite Mort Club canon (and so some familiar faces pop up for existing fans). As is the case with Ellis O Day we have wonderful characters and humorous situations and terrific sexual tension - and later some hot, hot easing of that tension.
Harker isn't getting any younger and he wants to leave his vast wealth to his progeny, but since he has none he wants Alison, but he thinks he only wants her to be the mother of his child. Alison has purposefully ignored that Harker is an attractive man because he's her boss, and she wants to get on by merit alone. The development of this relationship is agony, joy, and hilarity wrapped up in brilliant compelling writing. I cannot wait for the rest of these stories!

I was enjoying reading this book when it finished abruptly. Nicely written and the two main characters both seem strong and the interaction between them was good.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really a story..more like half a story.

This was fine as far as it went but I am becoming heartily sick of authors selling half finished books as complete. When a book has a sequel, it is usually after the first story has been completed, NOT just sopped in the middle. This feels to me like I have been scammed.
