In the Regency-inspired kingdom of Calatini, magic can complicate anything... even true love.

When Pippa Hawke sees Edouard, Lord Blaine, at a family wedding, it's love at first sight. Sunny, cheerful Pippa charms Edouard unlike any lady has before, and she's just as enthralled. But Pippa has yet to be introduced to society, with her reclusive father intending to keep it that way. And Edouard is too conscientious to court a lady as young as Pippa before her debut, no matter how much he loves her.

Yet Pippa knows that Edouard is the gentleman she'll marry, regardless of the many others attempting to court her. She sends heartfelt letters and arranges intimate outings that deepen their love, until serious, careful Edouard is taking delicious risks that cause her father to denounce him as a rakehell and forbid their betrothal.

But Pippa's father isn't the only threat to their courtship. In Calatini, magic is real... and sometimes, it's a curse that destroys even the strongest love.

The Sun-Nymph Bride is a cozy, fairytale-inspired low spice historical romantasy, perfect for romance lovers looking for a little extra magic. Fans of Robin McKinley’s fairy tale retellings will fall in love with the Calatini Tales.

Katherine Dotterer’s fantasy realm set in regency time era of Calatini has captivated me so much I can’t seem to get enough of these books. I am so in awe how each couple’s story harmonizes with previous stories, giving us glimpses of the other couple's progress with each passing book. Edouard is such a hidden romantic, sweet but stern with a heart of gold, his caring and protective nature and dreamy blue eyes that can melt any woman captivated Pippa and me instantly. Pippa is such a sweet cheerful bubbly character you can’t help but love her enthusiasm to go headfirst and follow her heart, she is such a mature yet young woman who knowns her own heart and isn’t afraid to go after what it wants. Pipa compassion, bravery and determination compel her to a more mature young woman than she seems to be, while her spirited nature keeps her young. My favorite part of Pippa and Edouard's story is when they both see each other and immediately fall in love as if they were two lost souls calling the other. I adored Edouard and Pippa sweet story and loved reading how all the other couples' lives intertwined with theirs, it really gives us that connection and glimpses with the other couple's story, by interlacing each couple's lives, it’s as if their story continues alongside the new. I also loved the complexity of the Calatini world and bonus easter egg links each book has, giving us a more detailed vision. I’m off to read the next and can’t wait to read more Catalini tales, this is by far one of my favorite series.

If you like a sweet naive romance with no spice (other than a kissing obsession) I’d highly recommend this.

This is both the most well written and my least favorite book by the author. Her writing has gotten SO much better since the first book (Selena and Aragon) but there’s still a few things to work on.

I think the biggest issue I had is (despite claiming she’s much more mature than other girls her age) Pippa is SO young. And she acts it. Compared with Edouard who seems much older it’s an odd match for me. They have nothing in common. Plus (again despite all her claims) Pippa is a hopeless naive romantic and Edouard is pretty much not. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the two, other than lust. Certainly not real love. Pippa is far more focused on herself and her own wants and doesn’t really consider Edouards. While he’s almost entirely focused on hers. Maybe he loves her but the way she acts she is only in love with being in love. They also have very superficial interactions and little to no conversation that doesn’t center on kissing. Which brings me to the other issue. The kissing obsession. It’s much too overdone here. To the extent of it being an issue when the couple is in public or with family. The almost make out with Pippas father in the room. Too much author, too much.

And absolutely NOTHING happens. It’s all bits and pieces of going to this ball or that event. Or shopping, or eating. But we don’t even get enough details of any of that for it to be interesting. And again they don’t really talk. The blurb says something like magic gets in the way of everything even love. But the only thing I see getting in the way is a petty parent and lack of communication. And Pippas reaction only highlights just how young she is. I think I actually agree with her father that she’s too young. There’s a very brief bit of drama at the end of the book. But it’s so easily overcome that even the characters didn’t really get worked up over it. I’d really like the author to put a bit more focus in challenging the characters and giving them something to overcome and less into rambling about kissing.

So far my order of favorites in his series:

    Kit and Mel

    Devon and Kiera

    Annalise and Dare

    Wren and Hawke

This one (Edouard and Pippa) *tied* Selena and Aragon

I have a feeling the next book will definitely make the top of my favorite list. The combination of the authors growth as a writer and adult characters makes that a given. Can’t wait for the next I just hope any future installments focus on slightly more mature characters than this one!

The Sun-Nymph Bride is the latest in the Calatini Tales by Katherine Dotterer, and I continue to be enthralled by this regency style romance set in a fantasy realm. This is set in the same time frame as the first four books in the series, but this can be read standalone. Writing so many synchronous stories is impressive and must have been a challenge for the author.

At the heart of all of these stories is the romance, with two protagonists falling in love and finding a way for their happily ever after. While the other books in the series have a subplot driven by magic, this story has less of a subplot, which in a way has made it more compelling as it focuses entirely on the romantic relationship. The romance in this story is low spice, but with a lot of heartwarming moments built on a deep connection. I enjoyed the honor of Edouard, the bubbly and spirited nature of Pippa, and the love, support, and humor provided by the friends and family. This book has less magic than the other stories as it wasn’t as key to the plot, but it was nonetheless present and unique, like the beautiful lockets and the music box.

Katherine once again wrote an enrapturing book full of romance and wonder, and I found this fully deserving of five stars. I love the quick, yet deep love that burgeons between our protagonists, and watching them navigate the troubles that life throws at them as they find their happily ever after. I’m very excited to see where the series will continue.

I enjoyed reading The Sun-Nymph Bride very much! It is the story of the courtship between Pippa and Edouard and it very romantic and sweet. I loved the idea of magic playing an important part in a historical period, especially if it is the Regency period which is my favorite! The story is heart-warming, touching and charming. Pippa and Edouard are delightful characters and I was really wanted them to have their HEA.

Pippa Hawke sees Edouard, Lord Blaine, at a family wedding and falls in love and he falls in love with her. You must read the book to discover all the trials and tribulations that they go through before they mar-ried and live happily ever after if they do. Ms. Dotterer has written a nice book and I highly recommend it...
