A fascinating tale of the darker side of the afterlife those who fail the tests to enter Duat. Forgotten gods, how their lives might be thousands of years after their purposes died with their followers. Magic and romance and a mysteriously stuck barge. Definitely would recommend. Although if you’re not a fan of snakes you might want to skip it, lots of snake and snake adjacent things contained within.

It's all work and no play for Sesy, an afterlife goddess until Tatenen pays a visit to her cavern. For some reason, the sun barge of Ra is not moving. He hopes the spitfire goddess can help him find out why. As they spend time together, they discover they have more in common than torturing souls. I enjoyed the story of Sesy and Tatenen. It was also interesting to learn about what happened to souls that did not pass the scale of judgment.

Okay. Sesy female 30’ acid-spitting snake is one of the cavern Duat torture deities. She helps Tatenen “Tate” a creation god, another cavern deity, who splits time with living and afterlife, to solve the riddle of the stationary Ra’s Barge. Romance develops. It’s okay. Just wasn’t interested in this story as the others. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
