Silken Ropes (Kink Awakenings Book 1) Kindle Edition
It took Ross Jensen ten months to lose 98 pounds, but the day he makes Lifetime in Weight Watchers he loses another 220 in an instant when his boyfriend dumps him. He'd never heard of a “chubby chaser,” but he’d been living with one for a year. Ross's BFF offers him her guest room and drags him out to her favorite sex club. He's hoping for a little action—or at least a distraction.
When Miles Shigihara is not busy designing meditation gardens, he practices Shibari. He's looking forward to a relaxing evening at his club, but is captivated by first-timer Ross. Miles doesn’t hesitate to approach Ross and treat him—and a small audience—to a steamy scene.
Irresistible chemistry and a shared love of ropes draws them together, but Ross will need to leave his body issues behind and get comfortable discussing his boundaries if he’s to have a future with the man who's managed to tie his heart in knots.
Warnings: This book features a corporate sensitivity trainer with an agenda who experiences sexual assault, an awesome gal-pal who helps him through it, a sexy Japanese rope artist, and the unconventional sex club of my dreams.
This book was previously published. Portions have been re-written for the Second Edition. An additional 8,000 words of Shibari and wedded bliss has been added to this Special Edition.

Ross has explosive reaction to shibari and Miles and he is interested in knowing Miles more.
Lots of stuff happens hit and miss between them.
I thought there's be more interaction between characters. There was a lot going on in both MCs lives.
I thought the book was good.
Love a HEA.

I felt that there was simultaneously a lot happening, mainly with side characters or individually, and not much happening together. I think the version I read must have an updated ending as there is a HEA that others and wasn't there. There was very little time with the couple outside of the bedroom.
After Ross loses nearly 100 lbs, his boyfriend, Brad, breaks up with him because he's a self-professed "chubby chaser" and is unhappy with the changes in Ross' physique. Ross moves into his Weight Watcher pal's spare bedroom and Janet (I loved the friendship between Ross and Janet but that couldn't carry the story) surprises him with a trip to her BDSM club one night in an effort to help him get over his breakup. There, he meets Miles, a shibari master, who asks him to participate in a scene, which he does and discovers his kinky side. So far, so good. I kind of wish I had stopped there.
Ironically with a series name of "Kinky Awakenings" I was disappointed by the lack of kink, lol. Pretty early on the first shibari scene takes place, setting expectations, but I was quickly put off a little bit by how it concluded with a BDSM neophyte being essentially abandoned after a scene, which was just the beginning of the downhill descent. I think there was one other shibari scene towards the end of the book and then another in the epilogue, which I enjoyed but they were too little too late at that point.
This book was a little bit all over the place, like the author just wanted to throw a bunch of plot devices into the book and see what happened. The result is a mediocre romance, without the depth that it deserved. It would have been better served to flesh out the main story rather than adding two additional storylines (a second romance and a lawsuit) that couldn't be done justice. The POV is almost exclusively Ross', with Miles getting the odd chapter beginning nearly halfway into the book, which served to create a strange pacing and didn't really add much insight or perspective. Throwing in a couple sexual assaults that aren't really dealt with in a meaningful way was just icing on this tasteless cake.
I picked this up for free as part of a "Stuff Your Kindle" event and it was a pretty quick read but I'm not in any real hurry to read on in the series or explore the author's other work.
