About this ebook

Slow-burn historical women’s fiction with a splash of romance—think: the love child of books like Bridgerton mixed with Pirates of the Caribbean.

GRACE ON THE HORIZON is the second full-length novel in The White Sails Series. Grace and Seamus, united by their past experiences, are adrift on a raft of shame in the sea of 1830s London society. After a personal tragedy, Grace’s desperation to leave London forces Seamus to accept a dubious commission on the private explorer, Clover.

With the expedition financed by Colonel Hamilton and his private backers, Seamus is tasked with mapping a round-the-world voyage. But Colonel Hamilton has an additional package that requires delivering—Father Babcock—a priest wanted for murder. The church wants Babcock transported far from England to set up a new mission in South America.

Battling his overprotectiveness, Seamus breaks his oath to always tell Grace the truth and hides Babcock’s identity from her. But the journey aboard the Clover is far from smooth sailing, and Grace suspects a saboteur. Trapped within the ship’s confines, she must learn to forgive her husband's well-intentioned duplicity and determine who wishes them harm—because now she also has her unborn child to protect.

Is it an aggrieved member of the Admiralty who believes Seamus disgraced the service by resigning his command to chase after Grace? Perhaps Grace’s father, Lord Flint, seeking revenge against her for ruining the family name? Or a jealous suitor determined to ruin the life Grace is trying to build with Seamus?

From the damp cobbled streets of London, around the freezing stormy tip of Cape Horn, and into the scorching dusty bush of New Holland, GRACE ON THE HORIZON promises another adventure on the high seas, bursting with action and suspense. It is historical women's fiction that will appeal to fans of the strong female protagonist in Outlander and and Poldark.

The White Sails Series complete collection box set features one sassy heroine aboard a ship full of sailors. Prepare for historical romance full of strong alpha males with a trace of vulnerability, superstitious sailors, epic sea adventures that take you from the cobbled streets of London to a tall ship setting, and ultimately a happy ending.

After reading and thoroughly enjoying Discerning Grace, the first book in the White Sails series by Emma Lombard, I was excited to read Grace on the Horizon. I'd missed Grace and Seamus, and couldn't wait to see how their relationship had grown and deepened, and to accompany them on their next high seas adventure. The book did not disappoint. As with her first book, Lombard's descriptions of life aboard a ship (this time, an exploration vessel on a round-the-world expedition in the 1830s) ring true, and pull the reader in for the ride; it's clear that a substantial amount of research was done to get the descriptions (many of which are delightfully sensory) and dialogue just right. The plot is fast-moving and twisty, which I always appreciate, and ties up not only plot threads from this story but from Discerning Grace as well. But it also looks inward, examining the fallout from one of the worst things that can happen in a marriage, and how a couple moves forward from that. I'm missing Grace and Seamus all over again, and am eagerly awaiting the release of book three!

The second book in the White Sails Series does not disappoint. A cross between Horatio Hornblower and Outlander, the Fitswilliam exploits are enjoyable and sassy. It is touching to see the young female protagonist of Discerning Grace become an adult, fulfilling the roles of wife and mother. Not only is this appealing to those of us who are no longer eighteen, it is a realistic romance that is beautiful in its reflection of our everyday - except in a thrilling setting. Get your hands on it now!

About the author

Emma Lombard was born in Pontefract in the UK. She grew up in Africa—calling Zimbabwe and South Africa home for a few years—before finally settling in Brisbane Australia, and raising four boys. Before she started writing historical fiction, she was a freelance editor in the corporate world, which was definitely not half as exciting as writing rollicking romantic adventures. Her characters are fearless seafarers, even though in real life Emma gets disastrously sea sick. GRACE ON THE HORIZON, is the second book in The White Sails Series.
