Strangely morbid but fun
This is my first apprentice of Anubis book. I have read some obscure Academy, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I don’t feel like you need a huge background for the other Anubis books to enjoy this one although I’m sure the augmented world building would have been helpful. Well done.

Duty to the dead
This is a stand alone story in the universe of the Apprentice of Anubis books. You don’t have to have read any of the series, although I highly recommend them, you will see some familiar faces from those books.
This is the story of Dhara an apprentice priestess in the Temple of Anubis. She and her friends are among the first to be chosen in the still predominantly male field. We follow her as she begins her journey to full priestess and navigates learning and love.
For those unfamiliar this is set in a world where the Egyptian empire never fell and spread across Europe instead of the Romans. It’s in modern times so it’s a blend of the ancient customs of those peoples and the modern world we are familiar with. It is a sweet romance with a rather unusual background of a funerary temple. Definitely a great story on its own and as a compliment to the main series!.

Fun times
Return to an alternate London as another girl is chosen to work in Anubis’s temple. I found the story cute and easy to read. Made me giggle and just enjoy the story. Enjoyed checking in to see how the temple is doing without Ani and Nik and the trouble they find.
