Publisher Description
Grief and power were always going to go hand in hand for the heir to the Empire, but that doesn't mean Iset is prepared.
When Iset discovers her father is sick, she has to come to terms with exactly what that means, including the possibility that she'll be ruling an empire much sooner than she expected to be.
After the worst news she can imagine, Iset isn't sure she has what it takes to organise mummification, and funerals, as well as juggle the politics of becoming the new Pharaoh.
But with her Sekhmet Blessed bodyguard by her side, perhaps she stands a chance.

Trigger warning: death of a parent
I can’t say how much I appreciate the TW at the beginning of the book. I had already expected it from reading the corresponding series but this book is HEAVY. The feelings Iset has over the death of her father are profound and Ms Greenwood is a magician in her own right to detail the pain of losing a parent. Well done.

Powerful and Raw
Need tissues because the emotion is powerful and raw dealing with sadness, heartache and grief. The author does have a disclaimer indicating this very warning. Death of a parent is a very trying moment and the author using her stories to alleviate the strength of her own personal grief is a great outlet. It’s perfect for Crown Princess Iset who is the heir to the Crown of Pharaoh. Her story along with her Royal Sekhmet bodyguard Nahresi is a compassionate tale and we do get to hear from Ani. This novella is a companion to Ani’s, Apprentice of Anubis series and follows after Ani’s book 8 and during book 9.

good story
While the content was a lot more serious than most books I read, it is an important topic and this book was well written. It was different reading about a romance in the middle of the grief of loss, but I enjoyed the book.
