Edie Ayala
Born and raised in western Canada, Edie Ayala’s journey as a writer is a tapestry woven with rich experiences and vibrant cultures. Living in Santiago has not only shaped her storytelling but has also infused her narratives with the pulse of Chilean life.
Each character she creates is a reflection of the diverse tapestry of humanity, drawing inspiration from the streets of Santiago to the whispers of the Atacama Desert and back to her homeland in Canada.
Her novels invite readers to explore the complexities of love, loss, and the human spirit, all while navigating the intricate landscapes of her beloved adopted home, with all its charm, its humor and myths. Underlying themes raise questions about social justice and the environment, hinting at our global interdependence. With each turn of the page, Edie aims to transport her audience into worlds where the extraordinary meets the everyday, encouraging them to see the beauty in the mundane and the magic in the ordinary.tes character-driven novels.
Her first, South of Centre is a saga sent in nothern Chile in and around the time of the Pinochet regime. With all of its myths and superstitions, it seeks to get to the bottom of various tangled family relationships. The second Hard Bed Hotel is a humorous love story where confusion between the living and the dead takes you on an eventful romp through Santiago’s more ‘popular’ neighborhoods. Her third novel, Threads takes a hard look at the global business of fast fashion. Two women on opposite ends of the globe are connected through love and loss.
