France, 1954: JJ boards the ocean liner Cambodge towards Hong Kong and Shanghai, bound to a light-hearted promise he made his dying calligraphy teacher.

On board he meets Fred, who adds lightness to the voyage. JJ longs for connection and yields to Fred's pleas to explore Hong Kong together. This is one of those books that captured my imagination right from the first line!. The author has cleverly revealed JJ's interesting character as I go deeper into the story, and with how the author describes the surrounding environments... It's almost like watching a well-directed cinema. If you love traveling especially to those exotic places in the East, this book is certainly worth reading!

About the author

Lauca

Lauca is a European writer, author of micro stories inspired by everyday life. Her historical adventure novel draws inspiration from her experiences across China, where she lived for six years, and from Chinese history. Her writing also reflects her interest in foreign languages and crossing cultures, thus it is not unusual to find characters of different nationalities in her stories. She also loves creating micro stories which sometimes stretch the reality. In 2024 she decided to focus on short stories and paused writing micro stories. She published a collection of micro story in September 2022 and the latest micro stories are still available on her website.

She presently lives and works in the amazing European Union, where she feels at home even though she misses East Asia. Berlin is her city of choice, and when she is not busy in her daily job as an internal auditor, she works on her writing projects and as a qigong teacher.
