Maya trees are scattered throughout the world.
Their powers are embraced by the major Zara and Bodhist religions.
When an animal dies, if they are placed close to a Maya tree then a 'fruit' or pod grows from the tree.
For humans, this pod is a red ball, the size of a cricket ball.
The pod holds all the memories of the dead person but has no 'soul' no ambition.

The dead leaves rattled on the ground like tin. It felt close to dawn. A small red being walked beside her, she could see the almost shape of a face.
'This is the pod' Marie thought and moved on.
A figure came towards her hurrying in the early light. She caught the sudden look of someone she knew, the brown baked features, the familiar eyes, a compound ghost. She called out, her voice sounded strange.
"What! Are you here?"
And even though the face was not fully formed she knew this was an eichon. It turned and walked beside her.
"Speak to me" she said "I may not understand or remember."
"I'm not eager to go over what has happened, those things are in the past, you should let them be. The words from last year, belong to that language, next year's words will use another voice. But as we are close now between two worlds much like each other, so I will tell you things I never thought to say."
They walked on.
