Quantum computing is one of the major buzz words of the last 10 years – so now is the ideal opportunity to step back and review where we are on the journey to a quantum future.

Up to this point, quantum theory has gone from the unknown to the norm. Prototype computers utilising the quantum phenomena exist, and the globe's leading companies have already moved beyond investigation and experimentation to confirmation of concept. Business models are being planned out.

albeit that questions still hang over the commercial and practicality of quantum computing today, the knowledge already learnt have started a new level of 'quantum-inspired' computing. The Quantum-Inspired computing enables advances in speed and scales sought after for true quantum computers, however, with none of the cost, energy and deployment obstacles being experienced by today computers.

This book gives insight into how the drive to perfect processes utilising combinatorial optimization lies behind many cases for quantum computers and how quantum theory drove research to suggest that quantum computing could be possible and comprehend what quantum computing is. We will also cover various types of quantum computers and quantum technology, before turning towards the business case for quantum computing in the financial sector.

While quantum computing sounds great it is essential to comprehend the difficulties, both technically and operationally, in the way of accomplishing those business cases, then review what the new levels of quantum-inspired computing is, what it's delivering, and see who is already utilising this innovative technology. Finally, having reviewed today's world, we look forward to the future and consider what quantum computing's future direction might be, particularly concerning the financial sector. We find ourselves on the verge of a new age of computing.
