Since my divorce, I’ve been rebuilding my life one two-by-four at a time—only to have it torn apart one code violation at a time by a handsome but infuriating building inspector.

When Finn schedules a plumbing inspection on the morning of the winter storm of the century, I’m convinced he’s lost his mind. He’s usually punctual to the second, but this time he’s late, a sure sign the California boy is out of his element.
Sure enough, he slides into a ditch, and I become his unlikely rescuer. Suddenly we’re snowed in together in my ramshackle, soon-to-be-demolished farmhouse that violates every building code known to man.

If either of us hopes to survive the next few days, Inspector Finn will have to learn to live with my sagging foundation, broody teenager, and potbelly pig. Otherwise, this snowy little Christmas could be a complete disaster.

Well… it might be either way.
