After nearly 50 years of learning and teaching economics, this is a collection of my observations, ideas and teaching activities that supplement and reinforce textbooks and other resources for teachers.
I have been an IB teacher for over 25 years and a SACE ( South Australian Certificate of Education) economics exam setter, supervisor, marker and moderator for over 34 years. My passion for economics education has also seen me editor/Facebook web master for the Economics Teachers Society of South Australia, past president and Life Member.
I have seen the change in education from textbook driven to teachers trying to engage and connect with students who have been overwhelmed with the information explosion on the internet. They struggle to find focus, read widely and deeply and often strive for the shortest path to completing their studies. Unfortunately, the opportunity cost of these short cuts is a loss of understanding and deeper engagement.
These resource ideas and activities focus on actively engaging students in a creative manner, with an emphasis on teamwork, problem solving and gamification.
There are a 101 activities and ideas - and in a busy teaching life, it is my hope that this resource will help a teacher and help give back some time and space.
