Wendy grinned. “I’ve been working beside him on and off for months. I know him better than some schmo at the bar. I’m not getting any younger. If I’m going to raise a family, I need to get the ball rolling. I can’t very well do that with Tom telling everyone that I’m his second wife.”

“He sometimes gets a little possessive when he shouldn’t. Maybe you should tell him that if he keeps scaring away the boys by calling you his second wife, you might expect he’d come through with the perks, if you know what I mean. That might set him back on his heels.”

Wendy stared at her. “That’s a little too forward for me. Too much like flirting with a married man. I wouldn’t do that to you.”

“Don’t worry. He wouldn’t stray. He’s a man, so he has to look, but he’d never touch, no matter how damn gorgeous you are.”

The other woman took a slow swallow of beer. “I get that a lot from the guys. It can be a pain to have men lusting at you at every turn. It’s refreshing to have a guy treat me like I’m not a sex object.”

Claire thought about the conversation. Where was she taking it? She didn’t know why she’d joked about her telling Tom to shut up or put out. Could it have something to do with her own attraction?

She’d never felt any desire for someone other than her husband since they became a couple. He satisfied her in every way. Well, perhaps every way that a man could. Was she hoping that Wendy could scratch that other itch?

Maybe.

Claire stayed quiet for a few minutes, thinking. How far was she willing to go with this fantasy? Did she hope to make I happen? Would she be willing to see her husband have sex with another woman to satisfy her curiosity?
