Ceri Stennett

Cardiff-born Gwyn Prescott has lived in the Whitchurch and Rhiwbina area for many years and is married with three daughters, all of whom attended Whitchurch High School. He is a life member of the Cardiff Harlequins rugby club, which has been based at Forrest Farm in Whitchurch for over fifty years. 

Gwyn was educated at Cardiff High School and Cambridge University and is a retired university lecturer. In retirement, he devotes his time to local history. Drawing on his longstanding interest in the First World War, he has been researching the effect of the War on Cardiff for many years. He is an authority on the early history of rugby football in Wales, especially its social impact upon Cardiff.  He has also researched the War’s impact on rugby. Gwyn has given many talks on these topics and has appeared in several radio and television documentaries.

He has been published widely in newspapers and journals and online and has written several books, including:  ‘Call Them To Remembrance’ The Welsh Rugby Internationals who Died in the Great War (2014); ‘This Rugby Spellbound People’ The Birth of Rugby in Cardiff and Wales (2015); and (edited with Andrew Hignell) Cardiff Sporting Greats (2007).
