About the author

J.M. McKenzie

J.M. had a long career in healthcare but, like many people, always had a personal ambition to write a book.  As a child she aspired to be a writer but was never encouraged or supported to follow this career path. She always wrote in the context of her work, but this was largely on commercial and scientific subjects.  It was only after she took early retirement in 2018 that she started writing in earnest.
Her first ever full-length publication was in 2020 and was a non-fiction biography, My Rachel, that she was proud to co-author with S.J. Gibbs. This is a personal memoir of the lives of S.J. and her daughter, Rachel, who was born with severe cerebral palsy. Rachel is now in her thirties, and the book recounts the relationship between mother and daughter and their fight for life, truth and justice.
In January 2021 she published her first fictional novel, Wait for Me, the extraordinary story of one ordinary woman's journey to get home to her husband at the start of the zombie apocalypse in the UK. Trident Edge, the sequel to Wait for Me, was published in October 2021.
J.M. has also published two short stories. Puschkinia, published in 2019, is a gentle tale about a lost wedding ring and the role of an innocent child in breaking down prejudice and misunderstanding.
The Each Uisage, published in 2021, is a spooky Scottish folklore tale, inspired by a trip to the Outer Hebrides.
In 2020, J.M. got through to Round 2 of the NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge with her entry in the spy genre called Option 3.
In 2021 she got through to Round 2 of the NYC Flash Fiction Challenge and the 100 Word Microfiction Challenge with her stories, The Buttonologist and From Venice with Love, and Wet Paint.
She is currently working on another novel set in the same UK zombie apocalypse as Wait for Me and Trident Edge but with a completely different set of characters in a different location.
