If any horse deserved to succeed, Astra did. Her breeding as a jumper was flawless, her mother was a successful show jumper, her father a successful steeplechaser. But when Astra was taken to her first competitions she refused to jump, even though she jumped with enthusiasm at home. For Clare, her owner and rider it was a bitter disappointment and a setback she hadn't bargained on. All the years of training seemingly a waste of time. In that first summer of shows Clare, kept faith in Astra, taking her to competition after competition, only to be let-down. Astra, it seemed was a failure, before she had even got started . . . good for nothing.

But then, just as things started to look up for Astra she broke down badly, and things didn't look good. Would she be destined to end her ill-fated life at such a tender age?

Or would Clare's love, and faith in her horse be enough to save her?

About the author

Anne Rogers

Anne Rogers is a South Australian multi-genre fiction author, writing science fiction, young adult science fiction/fantasy/magic, and paranormal cozy mystery. She was born in Gloucestershire, England. She now lives in Adelaide, South Australia.

Anne started writing when she was 14 years old and still in school and has been writing on and off ever since. The first book she wrote was a young adult cozy-style science fiction/fantasy/magic novel called The Magic Rainbow: Escape to Amorica.

Anne sent the manuscript to over a dozen publishers, but the only one who showed any interest was Penguin. "They said if I could get a hardback publisher, they would do a second edition in softback."

They didn't do first editions in softback back then. Sadly, Anne never got a hardback publisher. She had to wait until 2008 before she published it as an indie author.

The first book Anne published was a novella called Mission 14, a science fiction story, in 2004. The next book was UFO: River Crossing, also science fiction, a novella. Then Anne published two short stories—Renewal, a fantasy, and The Fatal Planet, a science fiction story. Then it was The Magic Rainbow's turn to be published in 2008—46 years after the book was completed. Patience is a virtue. The next book, Magic Rainbow: Race Around the Sun, was published in 2017.

Later, Anne published Golden Horse, which is the fictionalised story of one of her horses, Astra, that she bred and competed on in horse trials in England. It also includes the other horses she bred and competed on as well.

Anne has also published a book about weight loss and a healthy lifestyle called No More Diets. She has also written and illustrated three children's picture books for three-year-olds and upwards learning to read—Sooty Wooty is a Cat, Prince and the Apple Tree, and Captain Dan and Sailor Sam, all fully illustrated by her in bright, bold colours.

In August 2018, Anne started writing the first in a series of cozy paranormal mysteries called Penny P.I.: Deadly Trade, which will be ready for publication in January 2024. Book two, Snatched, will be published in February 2024.
