Emilee Herringshaw is a third-year medical student pursuing her MD/MBA at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She has lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 24 years, since age two. In addition to her medical studies, she enjoys being active and is a daily runner. She has participated in the 200-mile Ragnar Relay Race Reach the Beach with the New England Chapter of the JDRF team to benefit Type 1 Diabetes. In addition, she co-founded The Medical Humanities Journal of Boston College, a multi-genre publication focused on the topics of health, illness, bioethics and caregiving. She also enjoys composing personal pieces, through which she seeks to explore the patient voice and represent the complexities embedded in the health care setting.
