Year 998 P.E. (Post Earth)

Miya was a Searcher, but she had messed up big-time. She saw something she shouldn’t have seen, and flicked a switch that shouldn’t have been flicked.

Fearing for her life, Miya fled the Ark where she had been born and raised, escaping in a sampler pod.

If you call a one-way ticket to the inhospitable planet below ‘escape’.

But inhospitable doesn’t necessarily mean dead. There was life, she’d seen the signs. Unless the picture was a fake, then she’d be dead soon enough.

Finding not only life, but humans on the surface, Miya soon realizes that she’s not alone in leaving the Ark – her husband, Thomas, and his boyfriend, Hank, were dropped after she left, just two more Searchers who got ‘disappeared’.

Dropped, but not together. Thomas was dropped far to the west, in a cruel fit of vengeance by Oversight.

Miya and her companions, Hank and Sam, set out to rescue Thomas but survival is far from assured – for anyone. They have hundreds of kilometres to travel on foot, on the edge of deep winter in the middle of an ice age, and there are monsters out there.

Some of them are human.

Because there are rumours of cannibals, out to the west…
