Naomie
Naomie Karemi KAINGU is a native Kenyan/British citizen living in the Netherlands. With her Dutch husband, Tom, they are raising three exceptional children. One of their children is living with a disability from a birth incident and genetic variation, but as a couple, they have stood taller with and for each other in raising him.
Naomie is a born leader, a firstborn in a family of five (3 children and both parents); therefore, decision-making and leading are instilled in her already. In many of her work, with groups of friends, she takes on the role of the listener and adviser.
Naomie calls herself the 4th generation Traditional Birth worker because her female lineage, starting from her maternal grandmother, has served in the realm of Birth and Postpartum work.
Her maternal grandmother was a traditional Midwife back in her village, assisting in many births, including those of Naomie's cousins. Naomie was the grandchild who was welcomed to witness childbirth and introduced to being of service to new mothers after childbirth, one being her youngest Aunt following the birth of her cousin.
From a young age, her excitement of being in a space with new life and family adjustments has been imprinted. She was given tasks like being sent back then to boil water and get the razor, making sure it was still closed (sterile) in readiness for the birth of a baby.
She is currently a certified Birth and Bereavement Doula. She is studying for her Dutch Diploma in Maternity Nursing, hoping to work more in the holistic way of mothering mothers and their families.
Her work also covers the whole realm of Birth, Postpartum, and Bereavement support. Therefore, it is no wonder that she shares ancestral wisdom in this aspect of Postpartum, the importance of family and support.
