The insidious disease lies dormant in us all. Every host is a ticking bomb.

Rye Thorburn battles the murderous illness in the dead of night, and now he must decide if he’s willing to risk everything to uncover the chilling truth behind it.

Hello Darkness is a grim and moving science fiction thriller, set in the near-future where a mysterious neurological disorder is awakening within the populace and leading to terrifying consequences. In the face of this unprecedented threat, society has become an enclave of autocratic leaders, invasive high-tech security, corporate propaganda, and a weary populace sick with fear and suspicion. There are no answers, no cure, and seemingly no hope.

However, all is not what it seems. Rye and his colleague Kate Mbachi become entangled in a conspiracy that involves renowned researcher Dr Edde Albrecht and powerful political and corporate forces that profit from misery. Can Rye overcome his own demons to expose the horrifying truth about the disease before all is lost?

Readers who love Cormac McCarthy, Emily St. John Mandel and Chuck Wendig will be swept away by this heart-racing and uncompromising new dystopian novel.

About the author

Sev Romero

Sev Romero is a writer based on Ngunnawal Country (Canberra, Australia). Sev enjoys writing dark speculative fiction novels and short stories that hold a mirror up to today’s world. These stories touch on genuine issues, feature complex characters, have plenty of political intrigue, and include splashes of dark humour.

Sev’s inspirations are wide and many, and include George Orwell, Kurt Vonnegut, James S. A. Corey, N. K. Jemisin, Cormac McCarthy, and Margaret Atwood. As a child of the 80’s and 90’s Sev has also been heavily influenced by film, where he grew a love for dark uncompromising science fiction (Aliens, The Terminator, Robocop), horror (Halloween, Evil Dead, The Thing) and everything else in between (Akira, Ichi The Killer, Mad Max).

Sev is also a strong advocate for equality and the environment, and these themes often feature in his work.

When not writing, Sev enjoys spending time with his 3 children, cheering on his football team, discussing hip hop, and unwinding with the odd video game.
