Maddie:
Seven years have passed, and the abuse I endured still sat too close for comfort. Waiting tables wasn’t usually dangerous, but when a drunk man didn’t take no for an answer, a mountain of a man intervened, and the world as I knew it changed. Xander was determined to prove not all men were the same. Then tragedy struck and those doubts crept back in and the safe world I created for myself was no longer that. Overcoming my past to embrace the future he sees for us felt like an obstacle course I couldn’t possibly conquer, but perhaps with his patience, I’d learn to see myself the way he does.
Xander:
From the moment I laid eyes on Maddie, I knew she was mine. I just didn’t realize I’d be saving her from more than herself. With the danger of her demons fast approaching, I wouldn’t rest until she was safe in my arms, and in my home where she belonged. To do that, I’d risk everything. Even if that meant my freedom. Maddie and her twins were my end game and protecting them was all that mattered. Now I had to convince her she was worth the price.
