Alex Young's life was destroyed by the Culture War. But can he get it back? Does he even want to?

In 2015 Alex Young had his life and career as a successful theater director torn apart when an activist group called the Blackhats protested the opening night of his controversial play, The Underground, a satire poking fun at the ridiculousness of modern politics and PC culture. Alex's play became a rallying point for activists and politically motivated trolls who took delight in obliterating his reputation, taking from him his career, his girlfriend and his whole life.

Years later, now bitter and solitary, Alex reflects on what happened to his life, his tumultuous on again off again relationship with his ex-girlfriend, newspaper reporter Ally Harrington, who knows more about the destruction of Alex's career than she's letting on. And the rise of Jason May, a powerful conservative speaker who helped fund Alex's play and who also inadvertently drags Alex's name back into the fray by connecting his newfound political philosophy with Alex's controversial work.
