Douglas is a poet, novelist, and musician. An avid reader ever since he was a child, Douglas has always been drawn to words, their use and their meanings.
Born in the UK to a Geordie father and New Zealand mother, Douglas is a passionate Celt. With music in his blood, he toured the world as a child cellist before studying music at the University of Nottingham and playing bass guitar for indie rock band, Eddyfink.
As a self-taught acoustic guitarist, Douglas has a unique playing style, creating a multidimensional sound that speaks into a person's soul.
Moving to New Zealand in 2009 launched Douglas into rediscovering writing with the completion of his first novel, His Tutelary Guidance, and a book of short stories, Pas de Deux, while working as a psychologist.
In 2020, Douglas founded The Capital Band in Wellington, New Zealand. As conductor and musical director in this people's orchestra, Douglas created concerts that took the audience on a dynamic journey filled with musical, visual, and poetic symphonies.
In 2023, Douglas took the leap into becoming a full-time wordsmith. His works are full of imagery, honesty, and emotion.
